I will just come right out and say it. I am a nerd. I love reading fantasy novels, playing video games, and watching Anime. Girls society teaches us that we have to fit into these social norms. We have to like makeup, romantic comedies, and any song Taylor Swift writes. Don’t get me wrong I love myself a good sappy chick flick and 1889 is one of my favorite albums but I also want to embrace the side of me that I kept hidden for so long. I love being a nerd and there are some totally awesome reasons why you should too.

1. Fantasy novels

They have some of the best story lines and characters. If you have ever picked up TheMortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare you know what I’m talking about. If you love everything supernatural and a story with many twists and turns this is a book for you. Also, many Fantasy novels have strong woman main character. The empowered women make me proud to love fantasy.

2. Kingdom Hearts

Need I say more? In my opinion the Kingdom hearts game series is one of the best created. These games combine the classic Disney stories with an amazing story line and great characters. This game came out when I was very young but I still play it to this day and it never gets old. Nothing else has made me cry, laugh, and celebrate more than this game. Plus everybody who has played it will understand the feeling of success you get when you finally beat it.

3. Other video games in general

I especially love Fallout, and the Batman Arkham trilogy. Most of the video games out there are so much fun to play. Playing Fallout makes me feel super Badass as I get to fight super mutants and ghouls so I can save the area left of DC. The Batman games are fun and challenging and who wouldn’t want to “Be the Batman”.

4. Sailor moon

I looked up to Sailor Moon as a young girl. I would do the fighting moves in front of my TV and try to be just like the sailor scouts. This show taught girls that they didn’t need a man to save them; all they needed was the power of friendship. I mean who wouldn’t want to be a normal school girl by day and then fight evil by night? Plus I really wanted my own Tuxedo max.

5. Anime

Anime actually has some of the best plot lines out there. From Avatar the Last Airbender to Full Metal Alchemist these stories have my heart forever. I think a lot of people tend to think that animation can’t have a good story or much substance, but the Animes I have watched have better story lines than most mainstream TV. They can make you laugh and cry all within a 30 minute episode.

6. Game of thrones

At first I admit I was apprehensive of this show but once I started I was hooked. I have never been so emotionally attached to characters, which if you watch the show you know it’s the main thing you shouldn’t do. Also the amount of strong female characters in this show is very empowering. I wish I could command dragons and be a strong powerful queen.

I hope I could relate to some girls out there who are hiding their inner nerd. Embrace who you are and be proud of it! There is nothing wrong with being yourself and liking whatever you want to like. Being yourself is the most important thing in life and don’t let anybody try to tell you differently. I’m a girl, I’m a nerd, and I am proud!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
