So, it's officially summer, and you're all moved out of your dorm or apartment, back into your family home. But you don't feel quite the same. You've changed drastically over the last 8 months, and you haven't really been in your house very much since September. It's difficult having to up and leave your family to go to school, and moving back into a place you aren't so familiar with anymore really isn't easy.
You had to leave your friends behind and abandon people you became so close with. You had to come home to rules, curfews, and less freedom. There's no easy way for us to adjust, it's a process. The first few days are going to hurt like hell. You're going to miss your friends, your roommate(s), and your college-self. You're going to miss all the fun events and endless amounts of food. You're going to miss being able to stay up until 3:00 am not having to worry about disturbing your parents next door. You're going to get angry with your parents for not understanding what you're going through, and for not letting you sleep all day to catch up on your routine. You're going to feel like the world is against you, and that you would give anything to go back, even if you didn't like the place very much. You're going to feel like you don't fit in, and that you might as well be homeless. There's going to be so much unpacking to do, and you're going to have zero motivation to do it. Just staring at all the boxes and bags and bins (oh, my!) is going to drive you to the brink of insanity. Nothing about leaving college is easy, no one ever said it was. You assumed that after hating your life nearly every day while you were at college, and wishing you could come home, but now that you're actually home, you'd give anything to go back. Coming home is certainly bittersweet, but it does get better.
In time, these feelings will pass, and you will be accustomed to your home. You will enjoy the summer, and probably dread going back to school in the fall. Life can be vicious, but you will survive.
