Reality Check: Our America

I'm ready, and I won't stop until everyone can live life knowing they can be whoever they want to be, live life as they want, love who they want without any fears and to be truly happy to be alive.

As I sit here and write this article I find it hard to put everything into words. Writers block is a real thing, I mean I've been gone for a couple months now. There is so much negative in our world and I can't even tell you how hard it is to put on an act like everything is okay, when in reality it's not. I've been trying to reflect light into what is a dark and looming country, hell even time. The future of our country is in the hands of extreme republicans who think they know everything when they only know so little. I am so sick of the name calling, the slandering, the half truth and "facts". It has came to the point where I no longer have Facebook on my phone because of the false news stories that get shared, misinformation one side tries to spread, and the division of certain minorities. ENOUGH. Please. I am a political science major and I am even get annoyed with it all. At the end of the day we are all human. Yes, all of us. And we need to realize that. We as a society need to empower each other, encourage one another, build bridges, not walls. More than ever we need each other.

The other day my theater professor and I had a talk and he truly amazed me. I told him it's so hard to want to be that change when evil and corruption wins. He told me, this outspoken, loud sixty-year old

the future needs more of you, people like you. There's kids out there struggling, families who are in dire need, young adults who are terrified to be who they are because of what society thinks and the ones who are in charge. I see so many people like you who go on and do amazing things, the world needs you.

After hearing this, the fire that once burned inside me reignited. It reminded me why I am so invested within politics and why I have this platform to write and get everyone more inform. There is still so much more progress that we need to do but make no mistake, I'm ready, and I won't stop until everyone can live life knowing they can be whoever they want to be, live life as they want, love who they want without any fears and to be truly happy to be alive.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
