It's coming to that time of the year when our bank accounts are reaching their all-time low, and we are more ready than ever for the second best time of the year (after tailgating, of course): summer.
School is coming to an end, and it's time to start thinking about making the big bucks. Whether you're doing an internship, working at a restaurant or nannying, they all have one thing in common. Nobody really wants to be there.
When I say the word summer, I think of High School Musical Two in the beginning when everyone is whispering "Summer."
All you want to do is sit next to the pool with your best friends and talk about the latest gossip that is happening in your town. The last thing on your mind is being responsible and having a job.
The worst part about it all, is that none of that is true. Summer jobs are the worst. Odds are you don't even make it to the pool and that tan you have, you can thank Sun Tan City for that one. When you walk into work, you start to cry because its 85 degrees outside and you're stuck inside for the next eight hours thinking of all the things you'd rather be doing.
This is the only time of year when you can be "the complainer." We all know there are going to be a few times when you're hungover and aren't quite sure why everyone is talking so loudly and the lights are so much brighter. Other than these times, nobody wants to hear your problems.
You can also be that coworker who disappears all the time. Usually they go to the bathroom. Social media is way more important anyways. You need to scroll through and see all the Instagram posts you haven't seen yet. Also make sure that you watch everyone's Snap Stories because you can't just watch one. And you can't forget to take that perfect selfie.
There will also be multiple conversations when you have to explain to your mom why you have an entirely new wardrobe. She's going to ask where the money came from, and you quietly tell her you spent your entire paycheck on new clothes. Hey you worked really hard, you deserve to splurge every once in awhile, right?
Usually there is going to be that one person who you become good friends with. And I'm not saying you become BFFs. but you have the same taste in men and instantly make eye contact when a hot hunk walks in the store.
Even though you think it is the end of the world, in the end having a summer job is worth it. How else are you suppose to pay for all the drinks that you'll be buying during the school year. Like my mom always says "Money doesn't grow on trees" If only.
