As 2017 begins, many people having set resolutions and have been focusing on making this year brighter and better. Usually by the second or third week, a handful of individuals have deemed their goals unachievable. It just seems impossible to squeeze in an extra run or stay positive with such a chaotic schedule. However, this does not have to be the case, especially for those dealing with packed college classes. There are several resolutions that are both attainable and will help you make this year greater than last.
First, is setting up a more organized and precise time agenda for studying. Now that I have survived my first semester at college, I know what is expected of me and the guidance of upperclassmen has eased this process. Also, the work quantity in college differs from prior education, so one of my personal goals is to make more time to read over my notes. Another reachable resolution would be to get a specific amount of sleep each night. Even though sleep is a foreign word to college students, if you try to receive a healthy amount of hours you will have more energy during the day to perform well on all your tasks. In addition, take the time during meals to swap out greasy food for something nutritious. Fight back against the much dreaded freshman fifteen. A simple change in diet can make you feel and look better than before. These little changes can lead to big differences.
College is all about finding your place in the world and broadening all of your horizons. Therefore, I highly recommend to make one of your resolutions for 2017 to be stepping out of your comfort zone.
Answer all opportunities that come your direction. There are numerous ways to take chances. Challenge yourself to try something new at least once a week. This can range from attending a lecture on a topic you know little about, go to cultural events, or volunteer to help benefit a cause you show a general curiosity for. Even though you are continuing to move forward with all these new adventures, take the time to look back too. Spend some time with people outside of your campus. You can even resort to technology to get the job done. Take an hour out of your day and Skype your best friend from high school. These unexpected check ins show you still genuinely care for that person. Maybe call your sibling(s) once a week to see if that old hometown is still as dull as ever or ask about any news going on in their life. While college is massively time consuming, it will be over before you know it. These relationships are vital to maintain.
When it comes to fresh starts, I personally like to seize the vast amounts of opportunities. There is always time to pick up a new hobby or approve upon current interests. Despite having a crammed schedule, I would still like to explore what lies ahead. Who knows just how perfect something could turn out to be. You only have to keep trying to reach all those goals instead of abandoning them after a rocky start.
