Dear reader,
If you're anything like me, you always have such big plans for the summer. Last year, I was going to learn American Sign Language and run ten miles every day. Did I do either of those things? Well, I can say "hello" in sign language and I went on a run at least once during the summer. . .does that count? I planned on making another long list this summer, but I decided to keep it short and sweet, and make my goals doable. (And maybe if I write an article about it, I'll find the motivation to actually get things accomplished?) So here are 8 simple things you and I can do this summer:
1. Re-read one of your favorite books.
I have so many to chose from, so this is going to be a really difficult decision. Maybe I'll read more than one . . . ???
2. Go for a walk at least once a week.
Walking can help clear your mind or organize your thoughts. It's not a strenuous activity, so you don't have to dread it, and it's an excellent way to just enjoy being outdoors. Fresh air always helps.
3. Spend Time With Your Family.
And I don't mean just sitting in silence at the dinner table while you desperately hope your Groupme will start blowing-up so have an excuse to look at your phone. I mean actually spend time with your loved ones. Play a game; plan a outing; whatever you do, just enjoy being in their company without having to worry about exams and papers.
4. Learn a new skill.
And no, I don't mean learn to speak a foreign language or rebuild a car engine. Start with something easy and fun that you can learn in a day. Why not learn to tie a knot in a cherry stem with your tongue? Or how to change a flat tire? Anything is possible!
5. Pray every day.
Last, but certainly not least, take some time to incorporate prayer into your daily routine. And I'm not talking about hours, but how about five minutes? Chances are, at school, you find it hard to remember or find time to do this everyday. Study show that it takes at lest 21 days to form a habit, so if you start during the summer, by the time you get back on campus, it'll be an important part of your daily routine, and you won't forget.
So I hope I gave you some ideas for some simple and fun things you can do to make your summer fulfilling. Have a good break, y'all!
