Bey is back at it again. Whether you are a fan or not, it is not hard not hear about all the drama and controversy that B brings with her newest album, Lemonade.
Although a strange title for a CD, it's fire. With twelve songs, each song is better than the last, each containing powerful lyrics with even better underlying messages.
1. Pray You Catch Me
What a way to grab your listener’s attention with this opener. Bey did not hold back, and she set the tone for the rest of the CD with this one. Her voice sounds so pure and beautiful and the instrumentals are not overpowering. This song will introduce you to all the feels.
2. Hold Up
Now moving into something a little more upbeat than the previous song. She packs a powerful message within the first minute of the song calling out her lover (Jay-Z).
3. Don't Hurt Yourself ft. Jack White
This song title is pure sarcasm and is about a powerful woman and if a man cannot love her like, he should than she is better off. Probably my favorite up until this point.
4. Sorry
The infamous song calling out Becky with the good hair, whoever that may be no one knows for sure yet. This song starts with powerful message for girl empowerment but B gets a little more personal towards the ending.
5. 6 Inch ft. The Weeknd
Who doesn’t like The Weeknd? He’s perfection. Him and Queen B worked magic with this song. B talks about grinding for the money and working hard. My new favorite, for now.
6. Daddy Lessons
This song is upbeat with a jazz undertone which brings a nice change when you are halfway through the album. B is praising her daddy with a few possible digs towards all the gun law controversies.
7. Love Drought
Summed up the title speaks for itself. Slower paced with powerful lyrics.
8. Sandcastles
If you haven’t been into your feelings yet you will be after this song. This song is about a love that has been built up and then torn down and how things may not always work out. The first few lines are the most prevailing lyrics up until this point. Also my newest favorite song.
9. Forward ft. James Blake
This song is on the shorter side but it definitely still packs a punch. Raw and beautiful vocals, just like the majority of the CD.
10. Freedom ft. Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick and B bring it to the table. Full of underlying message about the blackness in
11. All Night
Cue the credits with this second to last song. This is a total love song.
12. Formation
Ah, the infamous Super Bowl song, B saved the best for last. This is my favorite song from the album. In the words of Beyonce, “I slay.”
There you have it, a review of each song from the album, now excuse me while I grab a box of tissues and continue to rock out.
