The 90's and early 2000's was a great time for R&B. It's 2016 and I am still wishing an artist will bring back that style of music. Here are some REAL R&B songs to bring you back in time.
1. "End of the Road" by Boyz II Men
An iconic R&B song to start the list. "Although we've come to the end of the road. Still I can't let you go..."
2. "All My Life" by K-Ci and JoJo
You can sing this song to the top of your lungs even if you don't have a significant other to sing it to.
3. "No Diggity" by Blackstreet
"Shorty get down, good lord..." This song is a little raunchy, but it's a classic. Dr. Dre is also featured. What else do you need?
4. "This Is How We Do It" by Montell Jordan
This song will make you get down in two seconds. This needs to be played at every party.
5. "Doo-Wop (That Thing)" by Lauryn Hill
An instant hit single for Miss Lauryn Hill. She warns both men and women about "that thing", which is up for interpretation.
6. "Too Close" by Next.
Grab your dancing partner, because it's for sure going down.
7. "Get Your Freak On" by Missy Elliot
Our first lady danced to this song in 2016. It's a bop.
8. "No Scrubs" by TLC
"I don't want no Scrub. A Scrub is a guy who can't get no love from me." The ultimate female anthem. I listen to this daily.
9. "My Boo" by Usher and Alicia Keys
You and your boo can still sing this to each other in 2016.
10. "Differences" by Ginuwine
A classic. He finally found someone to settle down with. I'm still waiting for a man to sing this to me.
11. "Miss Independent" by Ne-Yo
Yes! A male artist finally shines a light on independent women.
12. "Dilemma" by Nelly and Kelly Rowland
13. "Foolish" by Ashanti
Love hurts.
14. "Say My Name" by Destiny's Child
My favorite Destiny's Child song.
15. "Ignition (Remix)" by R. Kelly
I have to end the list with arguably the most iconic song of this era.
Now, I know there are more songs that are worthy of being on this list. If I put every R&B hit on this list, the listicle would never end. I'm waiting for an R&B artist today to make a song that I can feel in my heart and soul when I listen to it. In the meantime, I'll keep listening to these R&B hits on my throwback playlist.
