The most exciting and nerve-wracking part of starting your freshman year of college is finding out who your roommate is going to be. Some people decide to room with a friend from high school, some find them through social media pages for their university, and some, like me, go random. That is one decision I will forever be thankful for. Occasionally, you'll hear horror stories about random roommate assignments gone wrong, but in the chance that campus housing got it right, you might have found yourself a friend for life.
My freshman-year random roommate is about to be my roommate for the fourth year. Every experience that I have had throughout college, she has been there with me. Our first college party (and the many more that occurred), our first college term papers, endless boy drama, family problems, the hell that is finals week, and so much more. Since freshman year, she has been the first person I turn to for anything and everything. I vent to her, laugh with her, get very distracted by her while doing homework, and even attempt to cuddle with her.
Junior year we welcomed another girl into our lives in the hopes that she would make us the "three best friends that anyone could have," and let me tell you, she did. We joke now that we don't know what we did without her in our lives, because she definitely keeps things interesting. A lot of the time, we opt for staying in, in order to sit out the couch and have girl talk, just the three of us.
During your college years, if you are lucky enough to live with your best friends, you always have a party buddy or going-out buddy, a "let's stay in and watch movies and get drunk" buddy, a cooking buddy (for when you attempt to use the kitchen), and of course a study-buddy. You get to live in a place of constant support and good vibes. You never have to worry about tip-toeing around or avoiding them at all costs. You get to wake up in the morning knowing that you get to spend another day with your best friends.
Although the three of us live in different parts of the state and might not talk to each other 24/7 during the summer, whenever we are together, it is like nothing has changed. I'm sure that life is going to happen and we might not always be as close as we are now, but there is no doubt in my mind that they will always be there for me, and I for them.
