The Real Danger In The Bathroom Bill

How this bill has put women and children at a greater risk for sexual assault.

In the last couple of weeks, different state governments and corporations have made it known that they will allow transgender women to use the women's bathroom. It was celebrated by many people, but it was boycotted by many others. In my personal opinion, I do not believe that gender is something you feel. Gender is something you are born with. When your mom went and got an ultrasound, the doctor told her that you were a boy or a girl. The doctor did not say, "You're having a child. What gender that child ends up being is totally up to them and how they feel." In my opinion, nothing you can do will change your real gender. Anyway, I'm going to get to my point.

This new bathroom bill is dangerous to women and children everywhere. Why? Because it allows men into the women's bathroom. I do not care what you feel like that day. If you were born a male, you're a male and you should not be in the women's bathroom. End of story. This new bathroom bill is giving perverted men access to women and children that they did not have before. Before this bill, someone would surely report that a man had gone into the women's bathroom. If they were to do that now, they would be called a bigot or a hater. They might even get sued for causing "emotional distress." We now have to share a bathroom with men. This scares me. I do not feel comfortable with this in any way. Also, parents will have to carefully watch over their children as they go to the bathroom so they don't get assaulted or even kidnapped.

Why is it so dangerous to women? In the culture we live in today, there is something called rape culture. It also puts the blame of rape and other sexual assaults on women. How is this related to the bathroom bill? Well, now guys have complete access to women in any setting. One in six women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime. I believe that this bathroom bill could very likely increase that number. Now, any perverted man could say he felt like a woman and go into the women's bathroom just so he can peep at women or sexually assault them. To me, that's scary. I should not have to fear that I could be sexually assaulted in general, but now I have to worry if a guy follows me to the bathroom. I can no longer use the bathroom at Target because some guy decides that he feels like a women and can follow me into the bathroom. This should not be so.

It's dangerous for children for similar reasons. There are many child molesters just looking for a way to get alone with a child. All they must do is follow an unattended child to the bathroom and they have an all access pass to them. One in five girls and one in twenty boys will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime. This is not okay. I do not understand how people can put children at greater risk for this to appease such a small group of people. Why have women and children become second to transgendered individuals?

One question on my mind is this: why can't transgendered people just have a separate bathroom entirely? Why do they insist that they need to use the women's bathroom? I think it's because they know that the government will almost never dare to go against them. They will almost always give into their every whim. This has lead to the safety of many women and children to be dismissed. It's already hard enough for many women to get justice for being raped. Women are already dismissed for crying out against sexual harassment. Again, the blame is put on us. They tell women that their claims are not true, that they were asking for it, and that they should not have done this or said that. I believe this bathroom bill will make it remarkably harder for women to get justice when they have been sexually assaulted.

I'm sorry, but this bathroom bill is a complete disaster waiting to happen. I think it's time we rethink this bathroom bill because the consequences are going to be far greater than what people think they will be.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
