6 Ways To Get Ready For Spring

Goodbye winter, hello spring!

With winter being on its last stretch it is time to get ready for the next season. Truth be told, cabin fever is real at this point and anything to distract yourself from the fact that there is still snow on the ground, it gets way too cold on some days and you have seen every single episode of That 70 Show twice now, is more than welcome. Maine is currently preparing for yet another big snow storm that is supposed to hit later this week but there are still some things that you can do to get yourself and everything around you ready for spring. Before we know it it's going to be March 20th and with that comes a new season. So let's start getting ready.

1. Put together a list of activities you want to do

For far too long we have been stuck inside with very limited options of what we can do during our free time. The beauty of spring is that everything seems to be awakening again and there are tons of options on what to do during the weekends. Check your Facebook feeds for events, read your local newspaper, or check online about cool things to do. Be sure to write them all done so you don't miss any. Getting out of the house and getting moving again after a long gruesome winter can do wonders for your soul.

2. Clean your apartment

This is probably the most stereotypical thing that you can do to get ready for spring. But there is a reason for it. Really deep cleaning your apartment will not only make you feel really good about yourself but at the end of the day, it will also get rid of any leftover traces of winter. During winter time, when it seems to be gray and dark all the time, it is really hard to motivate yourself to clean anything more than the basics. With spring being right around the corner and the days getting longer and lighter you can now see all of that and it's time to put those cleaning gloves on.

3. Declutter your cabinets and closets

While you are at it. you might as well face another reality. Too often we just open up drawers or closets and just throw stuff in thinking that we'll take care of that later. However, too often what really happens is that once it is out of sight it is out of mind as well. So while you are getting through the last couple of days of winter, take even as little as an hour each day and focus on decluttering your cabinets and closets. That combined with cleaning your apartment will make you feel like there is nothing you can't do.

4. Get your wardrobe ready for spring

It is time. Put those winter coats in the back of your closets and get your light sweaters out. Changing out your clothes to match the new weather not only will get you excited for what is ahead but also help to remain organized. Typically we have way too many clothes as it is and really putting some time and effort into what we want to wear this upcoming season might help you to wear some pieces in your closet that you had forgotten about.

5. Start purchasing seasonal foods that are typical for spring

Farmer's market usually starts appearing again this time around and your local grocery store will start advertising what's in the season as well. Not only can you support your own community by purchasing these products but you will also start changing your diet to adapt to the new season. None of the times of heavy stews and casseroles. It is time for some lighter options again with loads of vegetables and other good ingredients.

6. Treat yourself

Whether you believe it or not but weather can severely impact your mood. Having managed to get through yet another long winter with very little daylight, cold temperatures and a lot of time spent indoors calls for a little celebration. This can be you getting your nails done, treating yourself to some dessert you've been eyeing, or purchasing a new piece for your wardrobe that you will be able to wear this spring. Treat yourself because life is too short and sometimes you just got to celebrate even the smallest of victories.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
