Spring time is in the air and that means that it's time for all of us to start preparing for the upcoming school year. From choosing which dorm room one would choose to live in to choosing the classes one is going to take, preparing for the upcoming year is more work than you think. Back in high school, all you had to do was talk to your counselor about the required classes that you're expected to take and then you're all set. Now, being in college, one has to schedule appointments with their advisors for their major and minor, figure out which required courses they need to take before graduation as well as possibly figuring out housing. This may create some stress for one, but if one follows the basic rules of how to get yourself ready for what's to come, then chances are that you will survive.
1. Your major sheet/minor sheet will be your guide
These two sheets are really helpful guides that can help a person figure out what kinds of classes that they eventually need to take throughout their college career. I have been keeping my checklist ever since my freshman year and each year when it comes time to register for classes. I also use this sheet to keep track of my grades that I have received from the previous classes that I have taken. This really does help me to determine which classes I should take for the upcoming school year.
2. Schedule a meeting with your advisors early
When you know that the BenULive online catalog is available, it means that you should probably schedule a meeting with your advisor. Not only will you be able to talk to your advisor about what would be the best thing for you to do, but you'll be able to have your advising hold removed. This will allow you to properly register for classes when it comes time for you to register.
3. Plan Ahead and Have Backups Ready
When you go onto your MyBenU account, it gives you the option of putting classes in your shopping cart. Then, you'll have to wait until your registration date and time comes around to actually register for the class. There is the possibility of having that class becoming filled up fast and you won't be able to take the class. This is why it's a good idea to have some backup choices ready for you to sign up for in case that happens to you.
4. Figure Out Housing Early and Have a Backup Plan
Now that you have your classes all figured out, now it's time to figure out who you're going to live with and where you're going to live. With various options, it's a good idea to talk to some of your friends to see if they want to live with you. It's also good to have a backup place in mind in case the place you want to stay at gets filled up fast. If you are planning on living in the apartments, chances are that it will happen to more than one person.
5. Once everything is figured, enjoy the rest of the year
Since you now know that next year is going to work out well, it's time to get back to getting through the rest of the semester. With finals approaching around the corner, most people will be studying for upcoming tests. There's nothing wrong with hitting the books ahead of time because it's better to know more than to not know enough for a particular class that you're taking.
