Maybe you had a rough day at work. Maybe you're fighting with a friend, and your heart is hurting. Maybe you missed the train you needed to catch. When you feel like the world is collapsing around you and everything is against you, take a second to read this. While reading this, remind yourself that it's the little things that count. If you have at least half of the things on the list, your life isn't that bad.

1. You Have A Home- Whether its a tiny apartment, or the biggest mansion around, you have a place to rest comfortably each night.

2. You Have Family- Regardless of how tiny or how large your family is, if you have one that loves and supports you, you're doing okay.

3. You Can Hear- You listen to the birds chirping outside your window, and you can hear someone yell to you a warning when you're about to make a mistake.

4. You Can See- Take a second to look at the sky, even if its raining. Wouldn't you miss being able to view that?

5. You Have Access to Clean Water- You don't walk miles each day to get water, do you?

6. You Have A Friend- Even if its just one, knowing that you have someone who you can trust helps a lot.

7. You Will Eat Today- Will there at some point be food in your day? It doesn't have to be fillet mignon.

8. You Have Some Form of Transportation- You have a way of getting everywhere you need to be, whether it be by car, by truck, by train, by bike, or even by a skateboard.

9. You Have Electricity- You don't need to worry about your home being in darkness when you get home, you'll be able to see just fine.

10. You Wear Shoes- Your feet aren't all cut up from walking on rough surfaces outside, because you have shoes to protect them.

11. You Woke Up This Morning- A lot of people didn't.

It's easy to feel bad for ourselves. Yes- challenges are frustrating! But one bad moment in time doesn't mean that our lives 'suck.' A series of unfortunate events doesn't mean our lives are over. We can move past and work through are problems knowing that the basics are taken care of. We are living. We are breathing. We're lucky. We'll be okay.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
