Why You Should Read Horoscopes

Even if you think they're bullsh*t.

There are always skeptics when it comes to the legitimacy of astrology. I, myself, am not completely convinced that the stars, planets and other celestial objects have any effect on my body. What I do know is that astrology, real or not, has always interested me and many other people. Maybe this interest alone is enough to legitimize it.

Whether you know everything about the way astronomy and events on earth connect, or you just like looking at threads about the drink you should order at Starbucks according to your sign, there is a reason why you're so invested in the horoscopy. Naturally, as human beings, we want to believe in something. We want to believe that everything that happens, happens for a reason. Even if astrology and horoscopes are complete and utter bull, at least they're something to believe in.

At some point, reading horoscopes makes them true. If your weekly horoscope says you're going to have a really good week because you're a Pisces and Venus is in retrograde, then you might be a little more optimistic and your week might just be really great. If you're a Gemini and your horoscope says you'll have a terrible day if you don't take the time to think about the things that make you happy, you might think about the things that make you happy and have a great day or you might ignore your horoscope and have a really crappy day (just like it said you would.) If you're a Taurus and a random picture on Facebook says everyone who's a Taurus is a boss a** bitch, then you're probably going to get a bit of an ego boost and act like a boss a** bitch. If you're a Scorpio and a Twitter account says Scorpios look best in the color neon orange, then report the tweet for abusive or harmful content. No one looks good in neon orange.

If you ever find yourself reading horoscopes on Cosmo's Snapchat story and thinking, "Why do I even do this? I don't believe in this stuff," ask yourself, "Why don't I believe in this stuff? Why not believe in it?"

Horoscopes are really cool. People put time and effort into writing them. Even if some or all of them are completely made up, they can definitely make you focus on a specific aspect of your life. So keep reading horoscopes, because why not? Having another thing to believe in might benefit you.

P.S. If you're a Scorpio you look best in the color neon orange.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
