A survivor of the recent Paris attack was quoted saying, "We have to smile... that is our fight against terrorism." For me, this made everything right. It spoke to me. This survivor's words put the recent events into perspective. Life is bigger than the headlines we read each day. But do not get me wrong, I am not disregarding the awful acts of terrorism and hatred that were conducted, and continue to be conducted. I am not a political person, nor am I an ignorant global citizen, I am just an individual who is sick and tired of this world we live in.
How many more headlines do we need read about people killing others? How many more Facebook statuses do we have to read asking for people to pray? How many more days is the news solely going to be about negatives? How many more people will live in fear? Will there ever be a change? I don't know about you, but I am (no not a Taylor Swift lyric coming) sick and tired of all of this.
The only thing that can fix all of the hatred, evil and fear the world has to offer is time. I do not know if time heals all wounds, but in time we can further better society. We should not forget all the events that have happened in the last 2015 years, but we should learn to forgive, and move on. This is not a proposal for the United Nations, it is just a rant, but we have to start educating ourselves and the youth on how to better society. Making a hasty Facebook status, or to the extreme of teaching your child that a race is bad just because that was what you were taught is how our society is corrupt. Thankfully, each generation is becoming increasingly more accepting, but we still have a large amount to go. Education is the key to a successful future. By learning about the history, and facts of any given situation, we can better ourselves and society. To truly be a global citizen we have to expose ourselves to the truth. Yes ISIS committed awful crimes against society and should be stopped, but do not ignorantly say all Islam people are bad or those from certain areas are. To be able to voice your opinion is the greatest thing we are allowed to do, but it is a disgrace when people choose to use their opportunity to freely voice what is on their mind in a negative manner.
It is on us. Yes, you. I encourage everyone to look further then themselves. It is humbling and a shacking experience to read what is going on in the world we live in. But do not let this stop you from living. To stop living, and experiencing new things because of these headlines would be a sin. Yes it is a scary world, however the world is meant to be explored, not to be watched.
