Most of us seem to look to our accomplishments for a definition of our self-worth or success. When we don't see the results we want, we are unhappy with ourselves. The problem for most of us is that we have goals, we just never pursue them. Why don't we? To me, the most common answer is a lack of motivation or time. Make a list, prioritize, motivate, focus, and get after it. A change in your mindset is all it takes.
I have watched a lot of motivational videos whether it be in classes, team meetings, or in my free time. They have all temporarily motivated me or impacted me in some way, but there is one video that has really stuck with me in my everyday activities. The name of the video is How Bad Do You Want It?
The quote that stuck out to me the most is "When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you'll be successful". You will fight with every last bit of strength you have just to get another breath so you can live another day. In that moment, you are focused on doing your best at the one task you have in front of you. So why don't you fight with every last bit of strength for that playing time, or for that A on a test, or whatever it may be that you are trying to reach?
The narrator goes on to discuss how some people would rather sleep than to work on themselves. Would rather get drunk, hang out with friends, etc. A lot of us kind of want something, but it is rare to find someone who will sacrifice everything they have to get to where they want to be.
The first step to reaching your full potential is making a list of what you want to accomplish. Some people make SMART goals which stands for specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely. If you make a list, put it up somewhere that you will be reminded of these goals every day.
My next advice to you is to watch this video. If you really want to be successful, thoroughly understand the message of this video, it changed my life. While watching the video, some of you past habits will come into mind. Note what you have been doing wrong and understand how to fix them. You can do anything you put your mind to.
Nobody can be perfect, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't try to be a little better than I was yesterday. We all have the potential to grow, it just matters how much effort you are willing to put in. Procrastination leads to stress. Procrastination also means you don't have the drive or motivation. Don't let people distract you from your goals. Make a list, research how to become better, motivate yourself, and get after it one step at a time.
