The toughest part is over. You no longer have to live in a dorm with hundreds of other people. You most likely do not have to share a room with another person, let alone a bathroom with 12 other girls. The time to move into your very first apartment has come. If you're anything like me, this has been a nervous, exciting time. I'm realizing that I am going be truly independent for the first time, which scares the you-know-what out of me. These are just a few of the things that I realized as I moved into my first apartment not too long ago!
The paperwork is long, yet somehow so easy
It felt like it took forever to sign all the papers for my apartment, but before I knew it I was being handed keys and sent on my way.
This room makes me miss my dorm room
After I fit the bed, desk, drawers, etc. into my room, it soon becomes smaller than I expected. I kept having to tell myself it was better than the dorms, even if it was hard to believe.
No more janitors
Living on your own also means cleaning all of your messes. There will no longer be people cleaning your bathroom or common area on a daily basis, and that is a tough thing to get used to.
Cooking my own food
At this moment in time, I am planning on cooking a lot of my food and straying from going out too much. I sure hope I can stick to it!
No more trips down the stairs to do laundry
If you're as fortunate as me, you have a washer and dryer in your apartment. This was one of the biggest deciding factors for me when I was picking out an apartment.
I hope I get along with my roommates
I like to think that I am a pretty easy going person, but I do know that I can get on people's nerves very quickly. However, I'm going in with a positive attitude, and that's about all anyone can do!
Adulting is hard, but we all have to do it at some point!
