I'm going to start this article by giving you a quick update on the weather forecast for the next five days or so. And in this update, I'm basically talking about how it's just going to be raining over half of the U.S-from Texas all the way to the east coast. But if you're anything like me, this is pretty much the best week of the year. (Except if you have arthritis or any sort of joint or muscle pain, I apologize because rainy days are agony, I'm right there with ya-Advil helps.) But that doesn't stop me from seeing the silver lining on these gray days. It's actually rather gloomy and gross outside while I'm inside writing this with a nice big mug of coffee to the right of my laptop. So let us reflect on the many reasons as to why rainy days are just as wonderful as those warm, sunny days, shall we?
1. Netflix
If I'm being completely honest, I already spend more than enough time in front of a Netflix series or movie on a day when it's 85 degrees and sunny, so when it's a not-so-nice day out every now and then, my Netflix intake is basically on steroids and I can be parked in one spot (my bed, most likely) for hours at a time. Yeah, I realize this could be considered a problem but I assure you, I'm working on it....*nervous laughter* No but seriously, what a great way to occupy time and procrastinate everything you really should be doing.
2. Cuddling
I can honestly go on forever about the importance of and the need and the want for wrapping yourself and "you know who" (that's where you're supposed to think of someone) up in warm, fuzzy blankets and bury yourselves in countless pillows and sweatshirts and get real comfortable. Guys, speaking from a girl's point of view, if this situation presents itself, take the opportunity, because as girls, we need this. Nothing is more satisfying, comforting, and intimate to a girl than being wrapped up in the arms of the guy she likes, thunder, lightning, and rain just on the other side of the wall you're leaning up against, and getting her hair played with or her back rubbed. Nothing. This is a fact.
3. Music
Good music is a must for when you're watching millions of raindrops hit the window in your bedroom. In my personal opinion, rainy days and thunderstorms call for more of the soft music. My rainy day playlist includes a lot of John Mayer and Sam Smith. If cuddling (#2, mentioned above) isn't available to you, or you're taking this day all to yourself, a killer playlist will be all you need. I get it, you need those "me" days, we all do. Just make sure you're in the company of some good tunes.
Tip: Pintrest is the perfect place to look for that feel-good, rainy day playlist.
4. Naps
All day, every day baby. There isn't much to explain on this topic except that I'd rather fall asleep to the sound of rain hitting the window or thunder rumbling the ground than falling asleep to no noise at all. I find a sense of comfort in the sound of thunderstorms.
5. Coffee/Tea
Grab your cutest mug because rainy days are the perfect days to stay inside and drink your body weight in freshly brewed coffee and/or tea. Now I know that not everyone is a coffee fan and not everyone is a tea fan, so no need to get judgy, either (or both) are acceptable for when those clouds roll in.
6. Reading
I have never really been able to describe the feeling of crawling into bed and curling up with a good book, especially on a cold, dreary day. This is mostly due to the fact that I never really enjoyed reading for pleasure until recently, like within the past year or two. But minute details aside, I still have trouble describing the feeling. It almost feels cinematic, like you're stuck right there on someone's TV and they're watching you in this moment. Except it's not scripted and I can imagine it's much more peaceful and sensual than a movie set. Does that make sense? Probably not but let's say it does, to make me feel a little better. Honestly, it's one of the most calming and soothing feelings in the world.
7. Writing
This here, what I'm doing right now. Prime example. *mic drop*
8. Puddles
Dance in the rain! Splash in the puddles! Stick your tongue out like you do in the winter to catch snowflakes, but catch raindrops instead. This will bring out the little kid you have in you again. It's a feeling unlike any other, standing out in the pouring rain with your arms stretched out to the sides, head back, and tongue out, laughing hysterically with the people you're chasing and kicking water at. I highly recommend it. Getting soaking wet-it's worth it.
Lastly, before I go do some of these things myself, if you ever get the chance to kiss in rain, DO IT. I've never done it, but it looks amazing in movies and it's definitely on my bucket list. OK now get to this list and make the most of these rainy days!
