Ragging On Another Major Doesn't Make You More Intelligent

Hating on every other major but your own is not going to make people respect you more.

From the very first minute you enter university, you will early on see the stereotypes surrounding different majors. You will find out what majors are often regarded as "easy" and on many occasions will hear what majors people go into when they aren't interested in having to apply any effort to school.

To the people that create and spread these types of stereotypes: you are not doing yourself any favors.

You may believe you are making yourself sound intelligent or like a hard worker by ragging on all other majors other than yours. However, all I get from it is that you are uneducated and ignorant.

I truly believe that every major has its ups and downs, and to classify any major as "easy" is ridiculous. For one, how do you even know so much about another major that you aren't even in? It goes along with the saying "before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes." Don't act like you know everything about a major when you haven't taken even one class in it.

It is completely ignorant for someone to blatantly look another in the eye and say that that person's major is so much easier than theirs. I remember a tweet shared on Twitter a few months back. The joke was hating on education majors as compared to biology majors, basically saying that education as a major is a joke because the bio student was writing a lab report whereas the education major was cutting out a puppet for their class. I remember how insulted my roommate was by this, as she too is an education major and felt it was unfair, as she has had many late nights writing 15-page papers.

These people easily made a joke out of this without realizing how their words hurt others while also giving quite misleading information.

Being a science major myself, I definitely think the stereotype does arise from the sciences and math majors a lot of times hating on majors such as those in Liberal Arts. I have heard my peers plenty of times talking about the difference in workload. It does irritate me, because it doesn't make the workload any less rigorous just because it is a different type of work (not to mention-you picked this major so stop complaining).

No matter what, I will never consider one major harder than another. College is all around a difficult journey no matter which path you take. So keep your stereotypes to yourself, no one cares to hear them.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
