One of the most irritating things that can happen to a writer is getting the ill-fated writer's block. Writer's block can make an author snap a pencil between his or her hand or, ultimately, make the author feel an over-whelming feeling of defeat.
When I acquire writer's block, I sit back, think of a few of my excellent writers and ask myself what they would do if they were in my shoes? They wouldn't give up, that's for certain. Here are a few motivational quotes to keep on writing.
"I think the trick is that you have to use words well enough so that these nickel-and-dimers who come around b----ing about being objective or the advertisers don't like it are rendered helpless by the fact that it's good. That's the way people have triumphed over conventional wisdom in journalism."
-Hunter S. Thompson
"You don't write because you want to say something, you write because you have something to say."
-F. Scott Fitzgerald
“That's why I write, because life never works except in retrospect. You can't control life, at least you can control your version.”
-Chuck Palahniuk
"If people cannot write well, they cannot think well, and if they cannot think well, others will do their thinking for them."
-George Orwell
“but for my own part, if a book is well written, I always find it too short.”
-Jane Austen
"I find that by putting things in writing I can understand them and see them a little more objectively ... For words are merely tools and if you use the right ones you can actually put even your life in order, if you don't lie to yourself and use the wrong words."
-Hunter S. Thompson
"Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing."
-Benjamin Franklin
“The secret of it all, is to write in the gush, the throb, the flood, of the moment – to put things down without deliberation – without worrying about their style – without waiting for a fit time or place. I always worked that way. I took the first scrap of paper, the first doorstep, the first desk, and wrote – wrote, wrote…By writing at the instant the very heartbeat of life is caught.”
-Walt Whitman
“A successful book is not made of what is in it, but what is left out of it.”
-Mark Twain
"If a writer wrote merely for his time, I would have to break my pen and throw it away."
-Victor Hugo
"I would stand and look out over the roofs of Paris and think, 'Do not worry. You have always written before and you will write now.'”
-Ernest Hemingway
"I know nothing in the world that has as much power as a word. Sometimes I write one, and I look at it, until it begins to shine."
-Emily Dickinson
Keep on writing.
