Life is weird. It can be so hard but it can also be pretty amazing. On the days you feel like everything is going wrong, it helps to have little “pick-me-ups” to get you through it and to know that everything is going to be okay soon. Some words from your favorite books and TV shows can really help you feel better, and motivate you to be better for no one but yourself.
1. “There will come a time when you believe everything is finished. That will be the beginning.”
—Louis L’Amor.
2. “Don’t let what he wants eclipse what you need. He is very dreamy, but he is not the sun, you are.”
—Christina Yang—Grey’s Anatomy.
3. “Sometimes you need to step outside, clear your head and remind yourself of who you are. And where you wanna be. And sometimes you have to venture outside your world in order to find yourself.”
—Gossip Girl.
4. “I think it’s important to realize you can miss something, but not want it back.”
—Paul Coelho
5. “The person you’re meant to be with will never have to be chased, begged or given an ultimatum.”
—Mandy Hale
6. “Experience is what you get when you didn’t get what you wanted.”
—Randy Pausch—The Last Lecture
7. “Looking around me today I’ve realized everything is so different. My hair is longer, the color has changed. The people I hang out with aren’t the same people I grew up with. My lessons and classes are full with people I haven’t spoken to before. My teachers are all new. I am able to smile freely and laugh carelessly. How is this possible? Time. Time flies and before you know it you’re aren’t in the world you once knew. The pains have yesterday are just that: the pains of yesterday. Time flies. With the snap of invisible fingers you’ve grown up, become stronger. Time flies and before you know it, you’ve made it.”
8. “The more difficult something is, the more rewarding it is in the end.”
—Big Fish (2003.)
9. “Not everything is supposed to become something beautiful and long-lasting. Sometimes people come into your life to show you what is right and what is wrong, to show you who you can be, to teach you to love yourself, to make you feel better for a little while, or to just be someone to walk with at night and spill your life to. Not everyone is going to stay forever, and we still have to keep on going and thank them for what they’ve given us.”
-Emery Allen.
10. “The important thing is not to be bitter over life’s disappointments. Learn to let go of the past… and recognize that everyday won’t be sunny. And when you find yourself lost in the darkness and despair… remember it’s only in the black of night you can see the stars, and those stars will lead you back home. So don’t be afraid to make mistakes, to stumble, to fall, cause most of the time the greatest rewards come from doing the things that scare you the most. Maybe you’ll get everything you wish for… Maybe you’ll get more than you ever could have imagined… Who knows where life will take you. The road is long and in the end… the journey is the destination.”
—Coach Whitey Durham—One Tree Hill.
11. “For what it’s worth: it’s never too late to be whoever you want to be. I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start over.”
—F. Scott. Fitzgerald.
12. “Things get better, you will go from standing in the shower thinking “God, what if this is for the rest of my life,” to “God I hope this is for the rest of my life.”
13. “Whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.”
—Max Ehrmann—Desiderata: A poem for a Way of Life.
14. “We’re all susceptible to it, the dread and anxiety of not knowing what’s coming. It’s pointless in the end, because all the worrying and the making of plans for things that could or could not happen, it only makes things worse. So walk your dog or take a nap. Just whatever you do, stop worrying. Because the only cure for paranoia is to be here, just as you are.”
—Meredith Grey—Grey’s Anatomy.
15. “There’s a lot of beauty in the ordinary things, isn’t that kind of the point?”
—Pam—The Office.
Obviously, there is no magic cure, you can’t snap your fingers and feel less stressed or even better about everything in your life, but you can get inspired. You can promise yourself that you will give yourself more because you deserve it. You deserve to live a life you’re proud of, you deserve to be happy, and you deserve to love you.
Everything happens for a reason, and whether you believe it or not, if someone left you it has nothing to do with you and everything to do with them. Never settle, life is a journey and everything we do is going to better us in some way.
Sometimes little quotes like these can help remind us, that we have one life and we better make sure we’re living it the way we should.
