Quoted And Noted

My lovely roommate and I have a solar figurine of Pope Francis in our window; it waves to us whenever the sun is out. Often on our way out to class, the Pope is waving. It is a little thing, but I have learned that the little things can truly be some of the most special parts of our lives. Pope Francis is one of my greatest inspirations and a teacher to us all; we can learn through his words and actions. He is full of wisdom. No matter what blessings or challenges we are gifted with, Pope Francis has a way to resonate in us something we need to hear. So, I have decided to share with you some quotations by Pope Francis that can remind us all of God’s love for us. Hopefully these can help start your day off with the joyful inspiration like the little figurine of Pope Francis waving in my windowsill.

  1. “Have the courage to be truly happy.”
  2. “Ask Jesus what He wants from you and be brave.”
  3. “The Lord never tires of forgiving. It is we who tire of asking for forgiveness.”
  4. “Love coexists with imperfection.”
  5. “To change the world, we must be good to those who cannot repay us.”
  6. “Faith is not something decorative or for show. To have faith means to put Christ truly at the center of our lives.”
  7. “Things have a price and can be for sale, but people have a dignity that is priceless and worth far more than things.”
  8. “Love is the measure of faith.”
  9. “With Christ at the center of your life, you will never be disappointed.”
  10. “To be saints is not a privilege for the few, but a vocation for everyone.”
  11. “Do not bury your talents, the gifts that God has given you, do not be afraid to dream of great things.”

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
