As I sit in the Dayton Airport on an incredibly early morning, so early that the sun has yet to rise, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for my college roommates. Dramatic and sappy, I know.
But it's true. I consider myself to be the luckiest girl in the world. Any old friend could take you to the airport—it's a pretty mundane favor. But not any friend would happily wake up at 4 a.m. with a smile on her face, drive you to the airport, have actual, meaningful conversation, and jam out to your favorite songs as if it's 10 p.m. on a Friday night. That's pretty rare, I think. Not so mundane to me.
So roomies, this one's for you. Thank you.
Thank you for knowing every single one of my flaws and quirks and willingly deciding to live with me in spite of them.
Thank you for never throwing said flaws and quirks back into my face. Yes, I grew up with siblings and learned how to take it, but I'd rather not.
Thank you for letting your closet be mine, as well. It's funny how, despite the seemingly endless supply of clothes I have, I can never find anything to wear. It's pretty convenient being able to shop through yours when desperate times call for desperate measures.
Thank you for being there for me when I didn't even know I needed it. That extra "Are you sure you're okay?" just shows that I always will be because I have people like you looking out for me.
Thanks for being clean. Enough said.
Thank you for your good luck texts before stressful tests and reassuring gestures such as getting Taco Bell on Monday nights when the week already feels too long.
Thank you for always being honest with me. I'm stubborn and need to be set in place...multiple times throughout the day. Thanks for keeping me grounded.
Thank you for introducing me to new people. I love having friends all over campus.
Thank you for wanting to watch Netflix at all times of the day, and letting me be bossy about it sometimes.
Thank you for knowing when to nudge me in the right direction when I’m too shy to push myself.
Thank you for always being supportive in every single thing I do. The feeling of endless support never gets old.
Thank you for staying up till 2 a.m. with me to talk about absolutely nothing.
Thank you for pushing me to be a better person every day, in every way.
Thank you for always being down to clown for a ridiculously fun night of shenanigans. (And thank you for having my back (and hair) when those shenanigans get too fun.)
Thank you for making all the same goofy mistakes as me so that when I’m having a panic attack about anything from a regrettable text to a bad interview, you know how to talk me down.
Thank you for putting up with my endless suggestions for new music and the jam sessions with my good ol’ reliable Beats Pill.
But mostly, thank you so freaking much for being you, because you’re perfect and make every moment of these fleeting four years all the better. And thank you for choosing to spend them with me. I am truly #blessed.
Love y'all.
