If you have hung out with me for more than 10 minutes you know that I make myself laugh constantly. It can be cute and funny the first couple of times but as time goes on it gets really annoying. People start to pester me asking "what are you laughing at?". I try to save them the explanation but I usually give in and tell them. One would think that after the explanation they would join in my laughter but alas no. It is really only met with more confusion and in some cases anger and annoyance. Regardless here is a list of one of the smash memes I might be laughing at.
1. Wombo Combo/Poor Zhu
Ahhhhh Wombo Combo. The prodigy meme of Super Smash Bros. Melee. If you haven't seen the video or even heard those words spoken then I'd recommend you try out a new cool thing called the Internet. Captian Falcon player SilentSpectre and Fox player Tang's beautiful child. In a doubles match held at a West Coast Circuit tournament back in 2008, those two players, who were known for practicing devistatingly beautiful team combos had managed to isolate one player by depleting all of his teammates stocks (lives). Then begins the brilliance. The last player standing was Falco player Zhu, who was playing Fox that match, and as he fell off the beginning platform, the commentators HomeMadeWaffles and Phil spoke those iconic lines.
"Aww Poor Zhu... Happy Feet... Wombo Combo... Dat Ain't Falco...OOH, OOHH, OOOHHH ,OOOOHHHHH,OOOOOOOHHHH, WHERE YOU AT? WHERE YOU AT? WHERE YOU AT? OH! OH! OH MY GOD!!! WOMBO COMBO"
From then on SilentSpectre and Tang created one of the most watched Melee videos to date and it also inspired the Poor Zhu meme. For the last 8 years Zhu has always been known as the one that got destroyed and every mistake he makes is met with this meme.
2. My B/Leffen Diss Track
2014 saw the rise of Fox Player Leffen Heljte and he let everyone know that he was on the way up. Within months leffen was considered the evil anime villian of the smash community as he went on twitter rampages against those he felt were under him. One man didn't take to kindly to Leffens growing Ego so he decided to Money Match Leffen at one of the largest smash tournaments of 2015. ChillinDude826 was tired of the constant disrespect so a month before the money match Chillin released his Disstrack and it was both uncomfortable but also brilliant and since then so many memes have sprouted surrounding Chillin dropping an album. However the money match was a slaughter, in favor of Leffen and Chillin's only words as he walked off the stage were "my B" and since then "My B" has plagued the smash community and any time I hear it or I saw it, I crack up laughing.
3. Nice Shot Hugo
Since 2006 Hugo "Hugs" Gonzalez has been one of the best Samus players in the world except for his horrible charge shots. For those unfamiliar with Smash, One of Samus's moves requires him to charge a powerful plasma shot which has a lot of killing power. Many Samus players use the charge shot as a way to finish their opponents stocks so they craft creative set ups that end with a charge shot. Hugs is great at setting up but absolutely horrible at landing the charge shot. Now whenever any projectile misses that is witnessed by any smash player the words "Nice Shot Hugo" are sure to follow.
4. No Johns
Every tournament, every match, smashers encounter so many different variables and sometimes they really like to stress those variables when they lose. One Smash with the gamer tag Johns was notorious for the crazy excuses that he would use as to why he lost. Because of his huge mouth the phrase "No Johns" is always said meaning "no excuses".
5. 20XX/20BC/20GX/666XX
There is no doubt that when it comes to the best Character in Super Smash Bros. Melee, Fox is at the top of the list. Taken from the game Mega Man and crafted by Fox player and commentator Toph, the meme "20XX was born"
"The year is 20XX. Everyone plays Fox at TAS (Tool Assisted Speedfun) levels of perfection. Because of this, the winner of a match depends solely on port priority. The RPS (Rock, Paper, Scissors) metagame has evolved to ridiculous levels due to it being the only remaining factor to decide matches."
20XX includes extreme technical skill and flashy play. It means multi-shines, wave-shines and many other extremely technical and hand breaking moves.
From this many other characters have created their own version of a future. 20BC refers to a time when Marth was considered the best character. 20GX refers to a distant future where Captian Falcon is the best character in the game. 666XX refers to the currently dominate performance of JigglyPuff player HungryBox.
6. Weston "WestBallz" Dennis
WestBallz. This mans Falco is crazy. So crazy that many memes have been created from his play. You have CircusBallz, Western Dentist, PopcornBallz. This man is like a giant fireball. You have no idea what he's going to do but he is so much fun to watch.
7. Melee Hell
Melee Hell is where the smash communities dank memes are created. It get pretty dark down there but they have created many memorable memes. I'd check out the Facebook Page but things can get really offensive there. I'm warning you now.
All of these memes were inspired by the Smash Community and have created many laughs, especially for me. If you happen to see me laughing you have some idea of what I'm laughing at but you might want to ask just in case.
