As time draws closer and closer to November the Presidential Election continues to gain a lot of media attention. While many people talk with vigor about the candidates that they hope to see in the Oval Office other people are stuck wondering who they should vote for. In order to help quell some confusions this article presents an unbiased break down of the current 2016 candidates and their stances on a variety of topics.
Donald Trump
Though he may have been a surprising name to hear in regards to Presidential candidacy Trump has gained popularity among many voters. Trump, who is running on the Republican ballot may not have a lot of political experience but has been a businessman and American icon for many years. On the issue of individual rights Trump is pro-life, disagrees with same sex marriage as well as legal measures in terms of hiring women and minorities. Trump firmly believes that God should be kept in the everyday life of our nation.
Trump is also firm on his stance that Americans have the right to bear arms as well as stricter punishments for criminals. He does not want to expand Obamacare. Trump does not want to give citizenship to those who have entered the country illegally. While he hopes to privatize social security, he is a supporter of higher taxes for wealthier citizens. Trump also hopes to expand the U.S. military but does not support free trade.
Ted Cruz
A Senator from Texas, Ted Cruz is another Republican hopeful running in the 2016 election. When it comes to topics relating to individual rights Cruz is very conservative. He is pro-life and is not a supporter of same-sex marriage. He very firmly believes that God and the Christian religion have an important place in our society.
Cruz is a strong believer in gun ownership for Americans and believes that criminals should receive stronger punishments. He, like most other Republican candidates does not want to expand Obamacare. Cruz does not support creating a "pathway" to citizenship for illegal immigrants and does not want to create higher taxes for the wealthy. He is a strong supporter of privatized social security. He also hopes to expand our nations military as well as free trade.
Marco Rubio
Marco Rubio is a Republican and was a U.S. Senator for the state of Florida. Like most of his competitors Rubio is very conservative in regards to individual rights. He is pro-life, opposes same-sex marriage but is strongly influenced by the Christian religion and believes God should be commonplace in American society.
Again, Rubio remains generally conservative across the board with support for gun ownership and strict criminal punishment. He does not have plans to expand Obamacare. Rubio strongly disagrees with helping illegal immigrants with citizenship as well as increasing taxes on the wealthy. However, Rubio is not a supporter of privatized social security. Rubio also wants to expand both the military and free trade.
John Kasich
John Kasich, a Republican candidate has previous political experience as the Governor of Ohio. Unlike many of his opponents Kasich is not as conservative when it comes to the topics of individual rights. While he is pro-life and has strong Christian influences he does support hiring requirements for minorities and women and has yet to comment on the issue of same-sex marriage.
Kasich is more conservative in regards to domestic issues, he is a strong supporter of gun ownership, does not want to expand Obamacare and wants stricter punishments for criminals. Kasich hopes to privatize social security and does not plan to raise taxes on wealthy citizens. He does not agree on creating pathways for illegal immigrants to gain citizenship. Moderately conservative on international issues Kasich supports the expansion of, but does not want to expand, the military.
Ben Carson
Unlike most of the other candidates, Ben Carson of the Republican Party is not actually a politician by trade but rather a brain surgeon. In regards to individual rights issues Carson takes a conservative approach. He identifies as pro-life and does not support same-sex marriage. He is also Christian and believes religion and God should be an important part of our society.
Carson does not plan to expand Obamacare. While he does support the right to bear arms he disagrees with creating stricter punishments as a way to reduce crime. Carson also hopes to privatize social security and does not agree with increasing taxes on richer citizens. Carson is a supporter of expanding the U.S. military but does not want to increase free trade.
Hillary Clinton
Hillary Clinton, a Democratic presidential hopeful gains her political experience through her time spent as Secretary of State. In terms of individual rights issues, Clinton states herself as being both pro-choice and a supporter of same-sex marriage. Clinton has much stricter thoughts about gun ownership than most of the candidates discussed so far, she also, unlike the previous candidates, hopes to expand Obamacare.
She also supports raising taxes on the rich and creating pathways for illegal aliens to gain their citizenship. She does not plan to privatize social security, expand the military or increase free trade.
Bernie Sanders
Bernie Sanders, the second Democratic candidate has been involved in politics for many years, specifically as a Vermont Senator. Sanders is most often described as this elections most liberal candidate. He is pro-choice and a supporter of same-sex marriage. He also supports legal requirements for the hiring of women and minorities.
Sanders hopes to expand Obamacare and does not plan to create stronger punishments for those in our correctional systems. He is described as neutral in regards to the right to bear arms. Sanders believes that our nation should increase its taxes on the wealthy and hopes to create a pathway for illegal immigrants to gain citizenship. He does not want to privatize social security. Sanders does not wish to expand the military or the free trade market.
