Samford Univeristy

Current students, alums, and prospective students alike--come gather 'round. There are so many things to love about Samford; however there are a lot of burning questions I have as well--some can be answered and some probably can't.

1. Why is the grass always so green?

2. Follow-up question. Is the grass really spray painted?

3. Follow-up question part two: Is that what my tuition is going toward?

4. Are you really part of the Samford student body if you don't participate in Step Sing?

5. Why are Sigma Chi's shorts so short?

6. Can you not afford better WiFi?

7. Who runs the Overheard at Samford account?

8. Why is The Caf so bad?

9. Is it necessary to make us take Concepts?

10. Why are there no boys?

11. Why are the only boys we have already engaged?

12. Why is Ring by Spring a thing?

13. How is Dr. Westmoreland the perfect combination of precious and intimidating?

14. Why aren't we blessed by Buck more often with school cancellations?

15. Just how many people have been bitten by snakes in Beeson Woods?

16. How many people haven't gotten to walk at graduation because they didn't have enough convo credits?

17. Is "Ruff em" still a thing?

18. If yes, why is "Ruff em" still a thing?

19. Is owning an eno a requirement to attend Samford?

20. Is anyone ever going to fix the cracked sidewalks?

21. Has anyone ever gotten stoned for coughing on the third floor of the library?

22. Does anyone actually pay their parking tickets?

23. What is the deal with Pi Kapps and Capri Suns anyway?

24. Can alums still get Dr. Westmoreland's monthly First Thoughts emails?

25. How does one explain Step Sing accurately with all of its greatness to a non-Samford student?

26. When are freshman going to stop doing frat laps?

27. Caf Dates...

28. Why do sororities plan formals on the same night knowing there is a shortage of boys?

29. Is there any other school in Alabama that compares? (No.)

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
