Last Friday, the official "Game of Thrones" Twitter dropped a bombshell for the fandom with three new season six teaser trailers. The clips feature tattered House Stark, Lannister, and Targaryen banners with voiceovers.
It's crazy, right?
Since I haven’t read the series, I don’t have even a vague idea of what to expect in season six. Thankfully, the script is deviating from the books as it is, so we’re all basically Jon Snow and know nothing.
1. For starters, who is Ramsay talking to?
One theory takes into account his correspondence with Jon Snow (assuming that he’s still alive) in the fifth book and this taunt is reminiscent of that letter. Or, he could be addressing Sansa after she ran (or jumped, rather) away. Then again, it’s Ramsay, so he could be bragging to literally anyone in an attempt to take over another army.
2. If he’s talking to Sansa, where in the world is she and how did she survive that drop?
The whole "landing on snow is like landing on a pillow" scene eerily echoes "Frozen," so maybe she and Theon have found solace in a community of trolls.
3. If Sansa doesn’t return, what is the ultimate fate of Winterfell?
All of the Starks who aren’t dead ran away, two of whom are crippled or blind. Is the Great Keep out of their family's hands for good?
4. Who does the High Sparrow think that he is?
I hate the Lannisters as much as the next fan, but inciting a rebellion is sure to cause a multitude of problems. I can’t imagine that he wants that blood on his hands, but is he actually just as power hungry as the rest of the characters?
5. That being said, what’s in store for Cersei?
You can hear the echoes of “shame” in the background of that clip. Paired with the voiceover, it doesn’t look like she’ll be getting that revenge after all.
6. Speaking of, can we look back on that revenge-plotting scene?
The new Mountain is creepy and if they can bring him back to life, where is our beloved zombie version of Catelyn Stark, aka Lady Stoneheart?
7. Is the sun rising or setting?
If it’s rising, I’m totally wrong and that could symbolize the resurgence of House Lannister, but if it’s setting, we may get to witness the glorious deaths of the most entitled family in Westeros.
8. What’s causing the fire?
My first guess would be that Drogon finally woke up from his nap or that Rhaegal and Viserion broke free, but, tragically, it could just be a raid burning down the Queen’s city.
9. In that case, is Meereen burnt to the ground?
If Missandei, Grey Worm, Tyrion, and Varys aren’t okay, there’s going to be hell to pay. (Let’s face it, Jorah is going to die from grey scale sooner or later anyway and they can always replace Daario with yet another actor).
10. Who is talking to Daenerys?
Likely it’s the Khal from the group of Dothraki that we last saw closing in on her, but my bigger question is, "How dare he insult Daenerys Stormborn, first of her name, the unburnt, Queen of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, breaker of chains, and mother of dragons?"
11. Last, but not least, why is Castle Black not featured?
Yes, I understand that they have to save the big surprise of whether or not Jon Snow is truly gone, but nothing is a bit disappointing. The other three obviously don’t give anything away, so they could have totally given us a glimpse at The Wall’s state.
I have high hopes for the next ten episodes, despite the disappointment that was season five. I’ve been praying to the old gods and the new to bring back Lord Commander Snow, for Daenerys to step up her game and be the Khaleesi that we all know she is, and, of course, for someone to finally send Ramsay Bolton to his much-deserved grave.
The wait may be dark and full of terrors, but three months is nothing compared to the long winter behind us.
