Rumor has it that Queen Elsa might end up with a woman suitor in the new Frozen movie coming out sometime in 2018. Now this is not confirmed and the movie is still a work in progress. However, co-director of the movie, Christ Buck, hinted that Elsa will be dealing with something that many people struggle with today.
I am going to tell you right now, the Christian community is going to lose their minds if this actually happens.
Let me tell you first and foremost that I am a Christian, and I have my opinions regarding this subject; however, they don't apply to what this article is about. I am simply trying to prevent or lessen the complete chaos that is going to break out among the Christian community if this really does come to be.
I don't really know why we are all so surprised that this is happening. Our country has made a lot of strides within the LGBT community. Additionally, why are Christian families holding Disney to the same standards as they would Veggie Tales or Bibleman? The thing we need to realize is Disney, and other sources of entertainment, are not out to get Christians.
Here is Disney's mission statement: "The mission of The Walt Disney Company is to be one of the world's leading producers and providers of entertainment and information. Using our portfolio of brands to differentiate our content, services and consumer products, we seek to develop the most creative, innovative and profitable entertainment experiences and related products in the world."
Keyword there: "Profitable." Having a lesbian princess is going to make a profit. Can you imagine the celebrity endorsements that will happen with this movie? So, Christians, we can't really complain about the content when Disney is primarily concerned with making money, not with upholding Christian values.
I will acknowledge the fact that this could be a let down for Christian families. The original Frozen movie was a great family watch, and kids may be disappointed that they might not be allowed to see the second movie.
However, Christian families can handle this one of two ways. They can either not let their kid see the movie or use it as a teaching moment. Wouldn't you rather your children learn about worldly issues in the comfort of you own home with a discussion afterward? Or would you rather them learn from other sources?
I hate to break it to you, but you can't shelter your children forever. They are going to figure it out eventually.
Furthermore, if we are so unhappy about the outcomes within the entertainment industry, why aren't we creating content that gets children excited? Why are we continually complaining about what is happening, but not contacting Christian film-makers to do something about it?
All I am saying is that we can't stop this change that is happening within our culture; change is inevitable. All we can try to do is educate our children about what is going on in the world and do so in a way that will not make them grow up too fast.
