Queen B Is Overrated!

Let's face the facts.

I feel like this needs to be said. I’ve been holding a piece of information back that I know would earn me glares and confused scoffs. I don’t like Beyonce. There, I said it! Well, actually, it’s not that I don’t like her, considering I don’t personally know her to dislike her. I just don’t understand why everyone else is infatuated with her. Their over-zealous love for her has put me in the position to not understand the hype.

I can’t deny what she has going for her – great fan base, decent voice, beautiful body, and a seemingly down-to-earth personality. She radiates sweetheart, but at the same time, she knows how to command a room to be focused on her. I like that she shows her ‘boss lady’ qualities, because it is so easy for the media to belittle woman in the spotlight, making them feel less than their male counterparts. She has undoubtedly made a name for herself because of the woman she is.

That is where the allure ends. I respect and acknowledge her work ethic, but I do not worship the ground she walks on. Whenever I see an Instagram post of her, it’s simplistic at best – aesthetically pleasing outfit and model-esque pose, but it never fails to get comments like ‘you are a goddess’ ‘yass Queen B slay, slay’ or ‘you give me goals.' I mean I get it, she’s beautiful, but that much attention is cringey.

The moment she sneakily dropped her self-titled album, the world could not function. She basically shut down the internet! I had friends who were acting like true fan girls through group messages while I just looked on with zero interest. For anyone that knows me, when a new album comes out, I’m always up for a listen. I can never pass on a chance to listen to good music. But that did not happen with the Beyonce album; it took me about three or four weeks before I finally felt up to listening to it in its entirety.

Okay, I give credit when credit is due! That album was good; I felt that though this landed out of nowhere, she put effort into those personal songs of hers. It was a good treat for her fans to listen to what she was ready to share, seeing as she is mostly private, except for her Instagram. But that is all the credit I want to give.

Once again, despite popular opinion, I have to say she rightfully did not deserve to win Best Album of the Year. It was a cool album, but it lacked what an album needs to win an award of that caliber. It lacked originality BECAUSE NEWSFLASH, FELLOW BEEHIVERS (or whatever you guys call yourselves), SHE WROTE NONE OF THOSE SONGS. I know what you are going to say: "but neither do most of these pop stars!" Ah, true, but they aren’t getting the most prestigious award at the Grammy's. Beyonce was. So my point stands!

Her fan base even went as far to discredit Beck, the winner of the category. Sure, his genre of music is not something that a majority of social media socialites listen to, but he has standing in the music industry, just like Beyonce. Here Beyonce was again, breaking the internet because her fans idolize her without thinking, and once again, I did not get the hype!

Beyonce is cool and all, but I’m tired of people giving her way more credit than she deserves. That isn’t even where the true problem lies; she is just a great example of it. It’s annoying how social media puts these celebrities on a pedestal, like they are God’s gift to Earth. I do not get the envy; I get having a desire for a lifestyle like theirs, but not to the point where I forget about mine.

I’m sorry world for waking up to the fact that Beyonce does not rule the world. But at least she tried, a big B for effort.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
