Communication is arguably one of the most important factors in any relationship one will have. A lack of communication will lead to the downfall of even the healthiest love between two people. The rise of technology throughout the 21 st century has complicated this, as unfortunate as it is, and it needs to be put to a stop.
1. Technology takes away from intimacy.
We often times lie in bed with our significant other and will actually be on our smartphones, completely isolating each other. Instead, use this time to hold each other and talk. Be intimate.
2. You feel the need to document everything.
Going to a concert? Let's record the whole thing on Snapchat. Going out for the night? Post it to Instagram. Put down the phone. You don't have to have proof you were there. Enjoy that time and be in the moment!
3. Alone time isn't actually alone time.
In a relationship, we, at times, need to be alone for a bit. With social media and friends at the tip of our fingers, there is never truly "alone time" any more.
4. Personal things can be made public.
A relationship is a personal commitment between two individuals. Don't allow secrets and intimate details of your relationship to be broadcast throughout social media or the Internet. This will absolutely never end well.
5. Public interactions are actually awkward.
We are so in-tuned with our smartphones, public interactions with people can be awkward. This needs to be reversed. We need to go hang out with everyone and not be wired to our devices the entirety of the time.
6. Online Flirting.
NO. DON'T DO IT! As easy as it can be, and as harmless as you may think it looks, do not ever flirt with others online. This is a relationship killer 100 times out of 100.
7. Fighting through technology.
Every couple argues. Every couple fights. Don't take it to the Internet and make your fight public. Also, don't fight through your phones. Do it in person. Trust me on this.
8. Unnecessary Distractions.
Do not succumb to the distractions technology provides. Whether it's flirting, fighting, or anything else imaginable, put it to the side, put down your phone, and most importantly, love each other.
