It's a Tuesday, around 11 am. You're a student at Clemson University, and you and a couple of your friends decide to go out to lunch. You walk to downtown and pass numerous restaurants -- Brioso's, Loose Change, Todaro's -- but one thing is missing. There are no restaurants that serve salads or healthy meals! Sure, at places like Chipotle (which serves fresh ingredients and meat) or PitaPit you can get a somewhat healthy meal. But nowhere in Clemson offers a healthy place where one can get a panini, soup, salad, and even a broth bowl (gasp). So in light of this travesty, I have complied a few reasons why it would be beneficial for Clemson to have a Panera Bread.
1. We have no where that serves a healthy meal, salad or anything not fried.
2. Panera Bread has lots of options, not just salads.
3. It could be utilized as a great new place to study other than the library or Starbucks.
4. It's not that expensive (it works with a college student's budget).
5. The owners are good people! They have this program called DayEnd Dough-Nation where they give all of the unsold baked goods to hunger relief agencies and make in-kind donations to charities.
6. Their menu offers numerous options for vegans and vegetarians that, sad to say, are not offered in the downtown Clemson area.
7. The mac 'n' cheese.
8. The mac 'n' cheese -- again.
9. Maybe you want to try two things, and normally that would be a sad day for you, but at Panera you can do a "You Pick Two."
10. And, finally, let's be honest, Wendy's (a popular student restaurant) is a little slack, and as Clemson students we can do better. Below are some student quotes.
"I've been in there before and there's a long line that develops usually between 12 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. and, suddenly, the computers don't seem to work and then all the customers leave. I've had this happen at 11:30 p.m. I've also noticed that when the computers are "shut down" that the rest of the electronics for the kitchen and the communication between the technology still is reliable." Mitchell Pennington '18
"Chilli as a side item? What is this -- Russia?" Mills Cubbage '17
"Cut in front of probably 15 people." Katie Bell '18 (on why Wendy's promotes a hostile environment)
"One time, I waited in line for 14 minutes and all they had left was a fish sandwich." Grace Grantland '18
And so...
