Sometimes applying what we learn in the Bible to our everyday life is challenging, but meditating on God’s Word is one thing we have been called to do. To seek God and to live the life He is pleased with is what we were created for.
Here’s what Proverbs 31 could look like in our present day lives.
Proverbs 31:10-31
- She’s worth more than precious stones. Her worth is not found in what others say about her or in the things which she possesses. Her worth is found in Christ who sees her as beautiful and lovely. She is made beautiful like precious stones when her identity is founded in Christ.
- She is trustworthy. She does not gossip nor reveal secrets. She’s the person that would be there for her friends. Her friends can trust her with anything. She would never harm anybody. Her reliability is described as “above questioning.”
- She is hardworking. She never leaves a job unfinished. She doesn’t sit back and let others do the work for her. Once she commits to something she will be diligent until it is completed. Not only is she diligent, but she is willing to work with a good attitude.
- She sees the needs of others. Not only is she concerned about her own health and finances, but she sees the needs of others. She volunteers her time to give to those who can’t give back. She loves others because Christ loved her first. Hospitality comes as a second nature to her.
- She is supportive and submissive. She knows when to support others in needs. She makes others feel important with her support. Her authorities are respected with her submission. While she is submissive, she is not pushed around. She is filled with strength. She is the perfect balance of strength and grace. Strength arises not only physically, but also mentally and spiritually.
- She loves the Lord. She has nothing to fear because she knows that God provides for the people who trust Him. She does everything for His glory. Her life is filled with blessings because of her faithfulness to Christ. The Lord gives her kindness and wisdom to share and impact others.
“Proverbs 31 isn’t about being perfect, but about living a life that is focused on the One who is… Jesus.” Angela Perritt
The point of this chapter is to not tell us to get up before dawn and buy fields for our family. The point is to see what a virtuous woman looks like. My only hope is to be able to become more like this woman every day.
