Reasons To Take Pride In Being A Millennial

As a great man (spongebob) once said, "I'm ugly and I'm Proud." That is the exact feeling that millennials need to feel, minus being ugly, because we are not. We need to take pride in being millennials. We get a really bad wrap for no particular reason. People born from the early 1980s to the late 1990s are all millennials, and most of us are still growing up. For some reason, since all of the baby boomers have been aging they have become extremely skeptical of our generation. Not to mention that the other aging generations have been skeptical of us as well.

Every time that someone tries to argue that the millennials are going nowhere in life, it really gets on my nerves.Do they realize the whirlwind of a storm that we were thrown into? And the older generations should be thankful for the fact that our taxes are helping support their living needs. I think that everyone looks past the great things about our generation and focuses on the negative things. Every generation has its flaws, but it's time for people to start realizing that there are many positive things that the millennials have already done.

1. The expansion of technology

Sure, we can thank our past generations for a lot of the technology that we have today but it keeps expanding rapidly. There are new devices coming out all of the time, and guess who is helping to make them-- ding ding ding, you got it. The oldest millennials. Now a lot of the older generations seem to think that our generation is incapable of thinking for themselves. Then how do you explain all of the new technologies that our generation is coming out with. Even the technology in the medical field is increasing. We are not taking our country down, we are doing nothing but helping it.

2. The acceptance of all humans

Many of the past generations would shame people who were not white, were not straight, did not practice some type of christianity, etc. Millennials are the most accepting generation yet! We don't have segregated buildings, people can marry whoever they want, you can practice any religion, and guess what? NOBODY IS JUDGING YOU. Sure there still are racists and homophobes walking around but that is because they were raised by the past generations who were not accepting. I am extremely proud to be a part of a generation who can put everything aside and see a human as a human.

3. We are driven

Past generations make claims that millennials aren't going to college, but take a look for yourself. But even with the insane inflammation of the price of college, more people are going to school now than ever. PLUS, many people are now getting bachelors, not just associates. Regardless, we still need some people to take on other jobs that don't require degrees. We will always need construction workers and plumbers and electricians. People with these skill sets are valued. Whether we get college degrees or not, our generation is already making a difference.

4. We now how to have fun but also how to be responsible

Sure, you may walk down the street and see millennials being carefree. But doesn't everyone deserve to enjoy some of their time? We don't have to be working all day, every day just to prove to the older generations that we do work. We don't need mommy and daddy to pay for everything. Of course they are going to help us here and there but that is just what a loving parent does. Also we are given everything in life, right? WRONG. We work hard both at our places of employment and at school. Many college students have multiple jobs while being a full time student; yet for some reason the older generations think that we sit and watch tv all day.

5. Upcoming companies

A lot of the the companies that are being formed today have more than just an essential purpose. TOMS Shoe Company, gives a pair of shoes to people in need every time that you purchase a pair. Ivory Ella, a portion of the proceeds go to helping save elephants. Pura Vida bracelets, help provide jobs to local artisans in Costa Rica. We stopped caring about just ourselves and realized that all lives matter, not just americans.

I am proud to cal myself a millennial. I am proud to be growing up in a generation of acceptance. I am proud that my generation is driven. I am proud that we care about everyone and everything. We are still growing up but we have the right ideas. The changes that will be brought up by the millennials will change lives of the future generations forever. I can't wait for the older generations to finally realize how much potential millennials actually have.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
