10 Up sides of Having Divorced Parents

Believe it or not there are some.

10 Up sides of Having Divorced Parents

It doesn't matter how old you are, what the circumstances are, or who you surround yourself with; divorce flat out stinks. My parents have now been divorced for about 4 years and I have noticed that there are some positives of having divorced parents.

1. Two holidays

Remember when you were little on Christmas morning and you would unwrap all your presents and then wish you had more? You now have two christmases; that means two trees with presents. You might have thought that you couldn't possibly eat more food during thanksgiving, but just wait until you have two dinners in one day.

2. Decorating your room

When you're little and your parents tell you that you can paint your room, you spend hours trying to decide what color scheme you want to go with. When your parents are divorced you get two bedrooms, so you get to pick two different color chemes.

3. More money

They'll insist on giving you gas money because they feel bad when you have to travel between houses.

4. Become more independant

You may have been independent before, but you will become even more independent.

5. Divorce presents

Whether they know it or not, a lot of parents will offer to get you things after they break the news. Whether it's something crazy like a laptop or simple like an ice cream cone on your way home from school.

6. You get a safe haven

When you get into a fight with one of your parents, you can go to your other house to escape them.

7. Become a stronger person

Like I said before, divorce sucks. It's an emotional rollercoaster where one day it's okay, life is great, and the next day you hard core struggle. You get through it though, and in the end you're a stronger person. You learn to appreciate what you have and to love unconditionally.

8. More money from FAFSA

You can get more Financial Aid for college if you are claimed under the parent that makes the least amount of money.

9. You get to welcome new people into your life

You get to welcome new people into your family. Your parents might remarry and you might get new siblings out of it. Even if your parents don't get remarried you get to welcome their significant others into your life.

10. Your parents will be happier

Your parents' happiness is the most important thing. They are getting or have gotten a divorce for a reason. If your parents are happier apart, then you will be happier too.

beer on the beach

Summer is hot and humid, and it's almost like summer was made specifically to drink the refreshing, cold, crisp wonderful, delicious, nutritious nectar of the gods. Which is none other than beer; wonderful cold beer. With summer playing peek-a-boo around the corner while we finish up this semester, it's time to discuss the only important part of summer. And if you haven't already guessed, it's beer. There are few things I take more seriously than my beer, in order are: sports... and beer. Here are my favorite summer brews:

Bruce Springsteen's Top 7 Lyrics

Everything Bruce says in his classic rock songs.

Anyone who was born and raised in New Jersey (or anywhere really) knows of Bruce Springsteen, whether or not they like him is a whole other situation. I hope that his hundreds of classic rock songs and famous high energy performances, even in his sixties he can put on better concerts than people half his age, are at least recognizable to people of all ages. Love him or hate him (I identify with the former) you have to admit that some of his songs and interviews have inspirational quotes and lyrics.

New England Summers Are The BEST Summers

Why you should spend your next summer in New England.

Marconi Beach

Three years ago, I chose to attend college in Philadelphia, approximately 360 miles away from my small town in New Hampshire. I have learned many valuable lessons away from home, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in Pennsylvania. One thing that my experience has taught me, however, is that it is absolutely impossible to beat a New England summer.

You cannot beat the beach. Believe it or not (which many people may not), New England has a long and beautiful coastline. Most of my high school summers were spent sitting on the Wall at Hampton Beach, getting sunburnt and eating Acai bowls from The Secret Spot. The Wall was the place to be both during the day and at night. We begin our days there with a KB's bagel and coffee, and end them with pizza and ice cream. It’s not a New England summer without that 4 p.m. text from someone, “Who wants to meet at the Wall tonight?” Nighttime is for Tripoli’s Pizza, the sound of waves, and wishes on shooting stars. Wednesday nights are especially important, as those are the nights that Hampton Beach sets off the weekly firework display.
