It doesn't always work out that your high school (or even elementary school) best friend goes to the same college as you do. Sometimes you don't even chose colleges that are near each other. College is all fun and games until you start missing your best friend and need to see him or her again. Yet, once the visit is prepared, it doesn't always go the way it was planned. You either cry as you leave because of how much you'll miss the fun you had together, or you leave wondering why you are even friends in the first place.
Pro: Seeing your best friend
Maybe it's been days, weeks, or even months since you've seen your best friend and you just can't wait until your big reunion together. Say goodbye to text messages, Snapchats, and FaceTimes - you can finally see your best friend face-to-face again! This is the ultimate pro of visiting your best friend at his or her college.
Con: Travel prices
Gas money is expensive and so are bus/train/plane tickets, but how else are you going to reunite? You have to pay the price to be with your best friend (especially when you get two flat tires just from visiting your best friend).
Pro: Becoming best friends with their best friends
Having your best friend be the mutual best friend is basically a guarantee that you will become best friends with his/her roommates and friends. There's no good reason you shouldn't get immediately get along. Before you know it, you're swapping numbers and Snapchats, friending each other on Facebook, and following each other on Instagram and Twitter. You might even make plans to just visit them next time around.
Con: Probably getting in at least one fight
Jealousies arise and sometimes your best friend gets jealous that his/her friends love you. Or sometimes, your best friend's friends get jealous that your friendship is stronger (it's weird, I know). There's also the chance you and your best friend will argue over something stupid, because are you really best friends if you don't fight at least once?
Pro: Experiencing something new
Visiting your best friend allows you to travel to a different city, maybe even a different state. Each school has a different atmosphere -- different ways of partying, new places to go, and random people to meet. Your best friend will introduce you to all of these things that you can grow to love.
Con: The possibility of partying too hard
Maybe your best friend throws a party for your arrival, or maybe they take you to a different house party or the popular bar nearby. You're so excited, but you have to be careful to monitor yourself. You definitely don't want things to get out of control and not only embarrass yourself, but your best friend, as you're throwing up in the corner surrounded by people who don't know you.
Pro: New dating pool
There's a good chance that you've exhausted the pool of boys or girls to talk to at your respective school. It's great to be able to meet and talk to a new set of people, especially when you find a person that captivates you for the night ... or longer.
Con: Not having a comfortable place to sleep
It's highly unlikely that your best friend has multiple beds in his or her room for you to occupy for the night. If you're lucky, he or she will let you share his or her bed (even though it sucks when they refuse to sleep anywhere but the middle), but it's likely you'll be on the couch, if there even is one. However, it's possible that the couch will be deemed "too unsanitary" for a guest to sleep on, leading you to make a nice blanket bed on the floor.
Pro: Getting away from your drama
Sometimes you just need to get away, and what is better than a weekend away to see your best friend? There's nothing better than escaping your daily routine and drama to have fun in a new place with new people.
Con: Getting involved in their drama
Of course you're already aware of the drama in your best friend's life (duh, you're best friends), but it's likely that you'll be included in it now that you're actually there. There's a chance that everyone has decided to gang up on person and your input will be required when everyone sits in the kitchen and decides to yell about said person. There's also a chance that you will be the drama if you either cause a scene or people get jealous of your presence.
Pro: Being the center of attention
People generally love when there is a visitor. You get showered with attention from your best friend's friends and other random students as they to try to impress you with themselves and their school pride. As a host, your best friend is likely to give you complimentary everything - free food, free drinks, and importantly, primary access to the bathroom.
Con: Running into people of your past
Unless your best friend somehow goes to college in Antarctica, it is very likely that other people you know chose the same college as your best friend. It's possible that you're friends with these people (or at least acquaintances). However, if you're really on good terms with this person, couldn't you also be visiting them? It's definitely not a fun trip when you encounter someone who you used to know.
Pro: Having a second home
Hopefully if the visit is successful (why wouldn't it be?), you'll have found a new place to call home. After the amazing you visit you had with your best friend and your new friends, you can't wait to visit again. It's even better the second, third, or maybe even fourth time around since you feel super comfortable visiting (maybe even too comfortable).
Con: Being abandoned
It's possible that your best friend might unintentionally ditch you (whether he or she ran off to someone's bedroom or accidentally wandered off on his or her own). It's intimidating to be left alone when you don't know the area or the people, and having to rely on your best friend's friends to get back to the house. It's even worse when you're locked out of your best friend's room, but on the bright side, it gives you plenty of time to bond with his or her roommates.
