I love dying my hair and trying out or looking into new things to do. One of my favorite things to do to my hair is dye it those fun and funky fashion colors. If you haven't done them you have probably seen someone somewhere with them: the bright or pastel blues, purples, pinks, greens, and pretty much any other unnatural hair color you can think of. I have recently had mine dyed a darker purple fading to blue, and thought I would share the pro's and con's of having your hair dyed with these fashion colors.
Pro 1: They are unique
Although these colors are popular not many people do them, and you can do so many different color combinations that you are guaranteed to stand out from the crowd. If you are wanting a different look than other people or even just something different than what you are used to doing adding some brightly colored streaks, or even dyeing all of your hair, is for sure the way to go.
Con 1: They fade quickly.
These colors are fun to do, but they do fade quickly. How fast they fade depends on the color and shade that you get, your hair type, and hair care. If you get a lighter pastel color it is going to fade out much quicker than a darker shade. Also when your hair starts to fade often the colors change a bit, the blue will fade to green, red to pink, etc. If you wash your hair every day or swim in a pool with chlorine, or even if you dye or straighten your hair a lot so it is fried all will cause your hair to fade quicker.
Pro 2: You can do these yourself or find a professional to do it for you.
Obviously if you dye your hair yourself it is cheaper than having it done, but sometimes having a professional do it can make it last longer and lead to less damage if you plan to bleach your hair for those lighter colors. If you are doing it yourself some brands I would recommend are Ion Brights, Perfect Intensity Hair color with Argan oil by One 'n only., and Manic Panic. I would not recommend using splat hair dye as people have mixed results with it. And if you are looking for something fun for your hair to only stay in a day or two hair chalk is also a great option. If you get it done professionally ask your stylist for recommendations of hair care for it to last the maximum time.
Con 2: Some businesses do not allow you to have fashion colors.
Before you choose to dye your hair, be sure to check with your boss to see what your companies policy is for unnatural hair colors, some will allow it with no problem, others will say it is not allowed at all. It is always better check before hand just in case, so you don't spend the time and money on it only for you to have to dye it back. Also if you know that you are going to be looking for a job soon or having to do interviews it would be best to wait to dye your hair.
Some tips I would suggest if you are planning to dye your hair with these fashion colors are, one to invest in some dry shampoo. If you spend the money to get your hair done, especially professionally, you are going to want it to last as long as possible, one way to do that is by waiting at least three days between washing your hair, or longer if you can handle it, between washes you can use the dry shampoo to keep your hair feeling clean. Also wash and condition your hair in cooler water, it will help it last longer as well. One final tip is that it is better to go with a darker color, it will last longer and should fade into those pretty pastel colors, but be less damaging to your hair.
