Like with any other family, sorority sisterhoods all have their ups and downs. While they say you can’t choose your family, this isn’t necessarily true for sisterhoods: we are sisters by choice. Through the good times and the bad times, we still choose to be sisters; we know the love we share triumphs above all else.

Here are 10 pros and cons of sorority life that all members experience during their undergraduate college years:

1.

Pro: All the free T-Shirts! From bid day to big/little week, sisterhood retreats and philanthropy events, to PR items, your closet will never be empty ever again.

2.

Con: Your room is packed from floor to ceiling with Rubbermaid totes, that are filled with all of the T-shirts, plus hoodies, backpacks, and giant, painted Greek letters. And that’s just your dorm room! Your room, attic, and basement in your parents’ house look like a scene from Hoarders: Sorority Edition.

3.

Pro: You have 200 best friends who love and support you unconditionally:

If you need a new suit for that interview, your sister will drive you to the mall. Go through a bad breakup? She’s waiting in your room with tissues and ice cream.

4.

Con: You can’t even get alone time in the bathroom! We tend to go to the bathroom in packs to begin with, but imagine 250 girls all trying to go to the bathroom together—things can get a little crowded around here! Sometimes you just don’t want someone watching you while you poop.

5.

Pro: You are bound to have at least one sister in every one of your classes, so you can study together. Most sororities even have study hours or create study buddy pairings to help you succeed academically.

6.

Con: “Studying” together consists of ordering pizza and watching Netflix, so unless your midterm is on the first four seasons of Gilmore Girls, don’t expect to ace it!

7.

Pro: Speaking of pizza, your sisters are always down to get food with you! At this point in the semester, you’re on a first-name basis with the delivery guy—and every Good Uncle driver, too.

8.

Con: You have to walk to chapter in the dark and freezing cold to burn off all those Chipotle burritos. And sunset is around 3 p.m. Just let that sink in for a bit.

9.

Pro: Your sorority has given you an amazing college experience. It is the missing piece of yourself that you had to wait 18 years to find and you are so so happy that you came home to your sisterhood on bid day.

10.

Con: You never want to graduate because you can’t imagine life without your sisters always by your side. You may have to stay in college forever or all get an apartment together, Friends-style.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
