10 Times The Quarter System Did, And Did Not, Make Cents In College

It’s the final stretch of spring quarter, but who else feels like spring quarter has been going super slowly? The quarter system is slowly killing me, but I only have three more years left of this!

PROS

1. You can take a variety of diverse topics that actually interest you

Although you are limited by space, you can take whatever class interests you!

2. Say goodbye to bad professors and classes in an instant

Semester system forces you to be stuck with a bad class for 15 weeks, but you’re only stuck in that class for ten in the quarter system!

3. You start school later than all semester students

We basically start school in October, whereas most start in August.

4. You can specialize in different things

The quarter system is flexible enough for you to pursue different majors and minors throughout your college career.

5. You can take more classes throughout the year

Conquer those pre-reqs and GEs!

CONS

1. Before you know it, it’s already week 7

Time is either going way too fast or way too slow.

2. That feel when you just ended midterms, but you have finals right away

Literally, some people have midterms every single week until finals week, and some people start midterms week 3.

3. Lectures are jam-packed with information

Professors make us learn the same amount of information within a shorter time period.

4. Breaks are weird

After ten weeks of classes and exams, we are given one measly week to recover before we have to get back into it all over again.

5. It’s incompatible with the schedules of internships and study abroad programs

Most internships and study abroad programs follow the schedule of the semester system, so we have a smaller pool of internships and programs to choose from.

If you work well under pressure and enjoy pursuing a variety of things, consider the quarter system! If you like to take your time with things and investing in a few things at a time, consider the semester system!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
