Like any job, babysitting can be very rewarding. Helping kids grow and supporting them can reap many benefits. However, with any adventure or experience in life, babysitting can have its difficulties. Here are some of the pros and cons that come with this adventurous job.
Pros...
1. You get to work in a friendly environment.
Who doesn't want to work in a playful environment with a bunch of cute kids squirming all around you? You don't need to respond to pressing emails to your boss everyday, nor do you have to deal with annoying coworkers who are constantly bickering. It's plain and simple. You get to work in the comfort of a home with charming children, and what could be more enjoyable than that?
2. It's a great paying job.
When you're strapped for cash, babysitting can be a great way to make a lot of money. It's not quite the same as sitting behind the counter as a cashier. Taking these kids under your wing as their temporary parent means that you have to put all of your time and energy into their well-being. As a reward, you receive a nice paycheck, and that is really helpful in the long run.
3. You get to revisit your "inner kid" again.
Deep inside each and every one of us there is a desire to be a kid again. Babysitting can help you reach back to your younger years as a playful, adventurous child. Whether the kids want you to play on the playground, run around the yard or just engage them with their toys there's always something memorable about taking part in their activities. It's so entertaining to to see them excited and it makes you feel "cool" all over again.
Cons...
1. Kids can be a huge pain to control.
Babysitting is one of those jobs where you always have to be on your guard and ready to roll with whatever happens. Depending on how many kids you're looking after, the job can be nice and relaxing or your worst nightmare. One moment you're sitting peacefully with them while watching tv and then just a second later you could be breaking up a fight while a baby is peeing all over you. There is never a dull moment during this job, and a lot of times, it feels like it's impossible to control those crazy kids.
2. You may not be on good terms with the parents.
You don't always agree with your boss. In the job of babysitting, your boss is the child's parents. Parents often give strict rules from the beginning because they are entrusting their children upon you. Sometimes when you decide to make a discretion based upon your own call, the parents get mad. There is nothing worse than getting yelled at when you thought you made the right decision for their kids. I mean, you're the "parent" while there away and they don't realize what is always going on. So why do they always get so uptight when you most likely made the better decision for their child if it wasn't the way they wanted it?This is just one of the many pains that come with this job.
3. You're constantly cleaning up.
This factor is almost always a given when you're working with kids. There are messes everywhere. You could have cleaned the entire playroom and within a matter of 2 minutes, there are toys all over the floor. You're entire day is a never-ending cleaning session.
