A few times a day, I see someone say or do something and I just think, “Wow, good people still do exist.” It is heartwarming, and I wanted to share some of my favorite examples that have made my days more positive.
1. People who thank their professor after each class.
Professors are wildly underappreciated, and the same goes for teachers at any level. Saying "Thank you" as you walk out of the classroom door takes a few extra seconds, but is sure to make their day.
2. People who send handwritten letters.
There are few things better than receiving a letter in the mail from a friend or family member. Although it is time consuming to sit down and write a letter as opposed to sending a quick text, the people with the biggest hearts send people letters in the mail.
3. People who bake treats just for others.
When I said few things are better than receiving handwritten letters, I may have forgotten about food. Everyone loves food, especially baked goods. People who bake for others are simply the best.
4. People who send “I thought of you” or “I miss you” texts.
Not everyone has the time to bake something or write a physical letter. But even just receiving a text from a loved one, saying they are thinking about you or that they miss you, can be heartwarming. Knowing that you have been on someone’s mind is enough.
5. People who hold the door open for you.
This is such a simple act, but it shows politeness. People who still do this are genuine and kind.
6. People who say “Please” and “Thank you” all the time.
This is also something most people are raised to do, and it is a standard of politeness. It seems that less and less people do it these days, so people who continue to do it are deemed kind.
7. People who genuinely listen to you and do not feel the need to respond.
As I discussed in a recent article, few people are able to listen for the sole purpose of listening. Most people listen to respond, and it is rare to find someone who is willing to simply listen.
8. People who message you tweets/Instagram posts/memes.
A friend once told me that direct messages are a love language. When you see a funny or relatable post and share it with a friend, it shows that you are thinking of them.
9. People who pay it forward in a drive-thru.
Seeing this trend become more popular makes my heart so happy. It is easy to start someone’s day off on a positive note by paying for the coffee of the person in the car behind you. And it will only cost you a few dollars.
10. People who think of others.
Basically, if you think about others and act in a way that considers them, you can be a good person. It does not take much to make someone’s entire day, and this is proof that good people still exist in the world.
