Promises We've Made But Never Fulfilled Every School Year

We have no one else to blame but our (college) selves.

Promises We've Made But Never Fulfilled Every School Year
Ted X

Since the beginning of classes is only two weeks away (summer was so long, yet went by so fast), I figured that I would relay what is said by us students as the beginning of the school year rolls back around. I would like to speak for many of my fellow students that this article is nothing more than a list of broken promises and self-expectations. This list not only tends to be a recurring pattern, but we somehow always manage to tell ourselves that this year will be the year that the goals we set will finally come true, only for them to come tumbling down... but one can hope, right?

I would first like to start off with the common phrase, "I'm going to start going to bed earlier". This is lie number one that we tell ourselves every year as we struggle to act like normal and responsible human beings that can actually function with eight hours of sleep. In the end, we either find our selves binge watching a show or scrolling through our feeds and etc., only to discover a few hours later that those eight hours of sleep we had hoped to get have now turned into three. Not only do we regret it the next morning, but it usually tends to happen once again the next night, and the night after that. It is like a routine of agony and torture that we subconsciously enjoy putting ourselves through. But who can blame us, right?

Next, I would like to touch on the topic of organization. Each year, we spend our limited amount of money on organization aids such as folders, binders, and cute planners, only to inevitably mix class papers together, tear through everything in our binders, and find that cute once-useful planner at the bottom of some drawer covered by other school "essentials." It didn't necessarily workout but it's the thought that counts!

Another lie that many of us make the effort to tell is that this school year, we'll try to start working out. I know that I am guilty of making this proposition myself, as every single attempt I've made just ends up being thrown down the drain. Many of us have a dream of eating healthy and being fit, and we may actually hit it off with a great start. However, healthy habits are hard to keep when you are a college student who is constantly being tossed into stressful situations everyday, with minimal down time to prepare good food. So goodbye time consuming healthy cooking, and hello convenient fast food!

Although these are only a handful of all the things that us students promise ourselves every year, we all have our own personal lists that may or may not change from school year to school year. Some of us may lead a healthy lifestyle year round, and some may even keep up with a consistent method of organization throughout the year, but overall, there will remain other promises that just do not make the cut. There's no hard feelings, but better luck next year!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
