Dear my best friend's guardian angel,
Seventeen years ago, she lost you, her mother. I am sorry that a freak accident robbed you of the moments most mothers long to spend with their daughters. I know she still thinks of you every single day.
I would like to start off by telling you what an astounding person your daughter is. Despite all she’s been through, she still manages to have an extraordinary outlook on life. I can’t even begin to explain to you how big of a heart she has. I know that some of her remarkable traits must come from you. Having her by my side has truly been an enormous blessing in my life. Although I could never thank you enough for giving me my best friend, I would like to make you a few promises…
I promise to be there when that idiot boy breaks her heart. I will tell her how beautiful and incredible she is over and over again. We will sit on the couch and eat ice cream for as long as she wants. I will remind her that she is strong and that although it hurts right now, it will not hurt forever.
I promise to be there the day she graduates college. When she wishes you were there to see her walk across stage, I will remind her of how proud you must be at how far she has come.
I promise to be there the morning of her first day at her new “big girl job.” When she is not sure how to take on the real world, I will remind her that she was put on this earth to make a difference and that I know she will do just that and then some.
I promise to be there when she meets the boy she wants to spend forever with. I will bombard him with a thousand questions to make sure he is good enough for her. I will to make sure that he knows not to mess with our girl. I will not leave her in bad hands.
I promise to be there on her wedding day. When she needs someone to hold her dress so she doesn’t trip, I will be there. When she needs something new, borrowed or blue, I will find them for her. When she starts to get nervous that she’ll drop her bouquet or walk too fast, I’ll be there.
I promise to be there the day that she becomes a mother. I will hold her hand and remind her that her own mother is “there” too. I know she will guide her children just like you have guided her all these years.
I promise to be there for all the big moments that I know she wishes she could share with you. I want you to know that she will never be alone. One day, I will get to meet you up in heaven and thank you for the gift of my best friend, but for now I hope this is enough.
Sincerely,
Your daughter’s best friend
