Prom: the one night every girl looks forward to from the day she enters high school. After spending hundreds of dollars on the perfect dress and spending weeks finding the perfect hair and makeup combination, you put a lot of pressure on this night to be absolutely perfect. When it comes down to it, what should you actually expect? Here is a list of some expectations that you may have for prom versus what it’s actually like:
1. Expectation: Money?! Psh, prom isn’t that expensive.
Reality: Start saving now. Your dress, shoes, hair, makeup, tickets, mani/pedi; these all cost money.
2. Expectation: You’re not going to be one of those girls who gets crazy and stressed out the whole day.
Reality: Your hair appointment is running longer than you expected it to and you slowly begin transforming into Promzilla.
3. Expectation: Your skin will be perfectly clear.
Reality: All of the stress leading up to prom will inevitably lead to a breakout. But don’t worry, that’s what you’re paying someone to do your makeup for!4. Expectation: You and your date will put "Dirty Dancing" to shame.
Reality: It’s an awkward high school dance with teachers there watching you. Chances are, you guys won’t look like professional dancers.
5. Expectation: Your secret admirer will vote you for Prom Queen 150 times.
Reality: Nope, that’s from a "Gossip Girl" episode. Thanks, Chuck Bass.
6. Expectation: You and all of your friends will pull up to prom in a limo and look like the best ones there.
Reality: You realize a limo would cost you an extra $60 and decide going to prom in your date’s blacked-out Civic is good enough.
7. Expectation: Your date will be super excited just like you are to take tons and tons of pictures.
Reality: Ladies ... let's be real. After the 100th picture, your date will probably start getting annoyed when he sees another camera in front of his face. Avoid the drama and don't make your date take a million pictures!
8. Expectation: Prom day will have the most perfect, temperate weather.
Reality: Be prepared for anything. Because of all the moving around and the fact that there's several hundred high school kids packed into one space, it will get very hot.
All jokes aside, prom really is a great time, and everyone should go and experience it. Although it may not meet or exceed all of your childhood expectations, you get to spend an amazing night with your date and your friends. Keeping yourself relaxed and having an open mind will help the night go a lot more smoothly and save you from the stressful side of prom. Happy prom season, everyone!
