Often in life, people look at you on the surface and assume things about you, good or bad. Like when you look at the beautiful, popular girl in high school and assume she’s mean spirited because that’s how all the movies are. Or when you look at a couple kissing in public and assume they’re happy in their relationship. As you can see, these are things nobody can really know unless they get to know the people they’re judging. In my case, people see me and see the A’s and B’s I’ve consistently gotten in school for years. People assume I’m super smart, well organized and on top of my game. This is far from the truth. I’m actually the world’s worst procrastinator. It doesn’t matter how big or small the assignment is. You can bet I’ll be in bed texting or watching YouTube videos until I only have an hour or so to turn something in. In fact, I started this article 3 hours before it was due and I had a week to finish it (yes, I’m ashamed of myself). Even though I hate the anxiety that comes along with procrastination, it’s a bad habit that I can’t seem to control. Trust me, I wish I could. So to make myself feel better about my awful work ethic, I decided to demonstrate the process of procrastination with characters from my favorite show, Parks & Recreation. I hope at least some of you can feel my pain.
1. How you feel the day you're assigned the project
2. When your professor says the project is worth a good portion of your final grade
3. When your parents and friends keep telling you to work on the project before it’s too late
4. How you feel the night before the due date and you still haven’t started
5. When you take a minute to reflect upon your bad procrastinating decisions
6. When you finally sit down to work on that project
7. When you have absolutely no idea what you’re doing
8. When you actually write a few good sentences
9. When you somehow finish your project before the deadline
