Hello, readers, I have a problem. Well, I don't see it as a problem, but some may. This so-called "problem" is my love for concerts. It is actually a recent love, but it isn't just the concerts I love, it is everything that leads up to them like the countdown or the actual drive to the show. That's what concerts are all about: the before, during, after, why you're going to the concert in the first place and who you're going with. My love for these experiences all began Friday, July 24, 2015.
On Friday, July 24, 2015, two friends and I attended the Idina Menzel concert in Atlanta, Georgia. You're probably thinking, "An Idina Menzel concert is what got you into concerts?" Well, yes, but that whole day was an amazing. The conversations we had in the car on the way there, the shopping, our trip to the Cheesecake Factory, the laughs we shared before the concert – all of these things are what sparked my love for these kind of experiences.
Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015 – a day that I will never forget. On this day, I got to see Ariana Grande live with my best friend. The floor seats to the show was her birthday gift to me for my 18th birthday; I know, my best friend is better than yours. What made this so special was that I had to wait so long for it. We spent five months counting down the time until the actual concert, and it was totally worth the wait. What was even greater was it gave my best friend and I a reason to see each other since we go to different colleges. Ariana Grande is one of my favorite, if not my absolute favorite singer, and it was so great getting to see her live. She did not disappoint.
On Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015, I went to Jingle Ball in Atlanta with two of my best friends and my big brother from my fraternity. We even turned it into a three day trip where we went shopping around Atlanta, which was so great to do with some of the people I'm closest to. We paid $70 each for tickets, and it was worth it, considering the fact that we got to see artists like Nick Jonas, Fifth Harmony and Justin Beiber.
On Wednesday, June 29, 2016, my cousin and I attended the Honda Civic Tour, which featured Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas as the headlining artists. This concert surpassed my high expectations. It was lit, y'all. This concert was everything I dreamed about for six months. The energy was so amazing because it was the opening night of the tour, Nick and Demi were just as ready as we were and we had floor seats. I could write a whole article about just this concert, and I still couldn't cover all the reasons why it was perfect.
A lot of people see going to concerts as a waste of money, and I can see where they are coming from with that argument, but it is about more than just the actual concert itself. It is about the waiting, the things you do before, the people you go with and so much more. Next time someone tells you that you are wasting your money with a concert or says you go to too many concerts, don't be ashamed because it is totally worth it.
