As I scrolled through my Facebook news feed this week I ran into many versions of the same story, the story of the potato photograph that sold for over 1 million dollars. After viewing this photograph I joined in the general social media outrage that this photo, this picture of a potato, had just sold for enough money to buy one million dollars worth of potatoes. This portrait of a potato, titled Potato #345, was taken by artist Kevin Abosch who is also known for his portraits of celebrities and business executives. When talking about this emotional potato still life, Abosch commented, "I see commonalities between humans and potatoes that speak to our relationship as individuals within a collective species."
In response to this million dollar potato photograph I have complied a collection of 10 stock photos of potatoes that all look... about the same, honestly--but cost somewhere around 999,999 dollars less.

The peel probably represents humans shedding their shields and masks and letting their inner potato shine through.
2.
A tall serene potato glows despite its blemishes. It reminds us all of how we have potential to glow despite our various starchy discolorations.
3.This variety pack of potatoes conjures up strong feelings about the diversity of humans.
4.
The rich and lavish potato poses for the camera much the same way a rich and lavish human would pose. Don't think about that for too long.
5
It is almost impossible to tell if this is a photo of a potato, a rock, or a human.
6.
With remarkable bravery this potato bares it all. The vulnerable potato is a symbol of empowerment when being open and honest.

Sometimes potatoes a potato is broken. Sometimes a potato struggles and is cut in the prime of its life. As we struggle, this photo makes us remember that potatoes struggle too.

Ultimately, the human and potato unite to frolic in their natural state. Bliss, the true connection between human and potato. Such honesty and love can be hard-won with tubers, but once achieved, their bonds can last a lifetime.
