We're finally back and settled in at the happiest place in the world - State College, a melting pot of a multitude of cultures, ages, etc. With that diverse mixture naturally comes many different personalities and personal styles. It's amazing if you take a second to look around at how incredibly varied our campus is when it comes to fashion.
However, there are numerous, prominent trends standing out on campus already. You can't go out at night without seeing a girl sporting a flowy, see-through slip dress with a lace bralette or a flowy pair of patterned pants with a crop top. These overplayed pieces, like all trends in the past (I'm looking at you, bandage skirts), will soon die. Don't fret! I'm here to introduce a fabulous, new day-to-night trend: the matching set.
I've been a huge fan of matching sets for quite a while now due to their versatility. You can easily dress them up or down! I recently spotted Megan Miller walking around campus rocking a gray matching set with a flannel covering her open stomach and brown combat boots, giving the outfit a casual, daytime vibe. This set alone could appear to be a little too much due to it being monochromatic. However, Meg knew that all she had to do was throw on a casual top and she'd tone down the outfit.
Furthermore, the great thing about a matching set is that it's about one ofthe easiest nighttime outfits one could possibly own! All Meg had to do was simply take off her flannel, throw on a statement necklace and trade her combat boots for a black pair of Jeffrey Campbell heels and she'd be ready for a night out!
A trend that's been seen on the covers of magazines by various celebrities for a while now has slowly trickled into affordable, awesome stores such as ASOS, Topshop, H&M and River Island. These retailers are finally making them available to broke (but trendy) college students. Even good, old Hollister now carries them.
Okay, maybe I'm just tired of seeing the same thing over and over again at night, and I'm sure you are, too! That's why I've been on the lookout for cool, new clothing pieces. Don't be afraid to try clothing that's unique and a little quirky. It was not too long ago that the flowy, Bohemian pants were looked at a little questionably, yet eventually everyone grew to love (and own) them! All in all, wear whatever your heart desires, but don't be afraid to go against the status quo and find your own personal style!
