It's 10:05 p.m. on a Thursday night and you are standing in the makeup aisle in some store searching for your shade of foundation. There are so many other things you could be doing right now but in the middle of performing those tasks you remembered you ran out this morning. You recall violently shaking the bottle for every last drop.
But why?
What would happen if you let the world see that pimple on your left cheek? Or that scar on your nose? No, you can't let that happen. Not in today's society. You are a struggling diamond. Diamonds form from pressure; they are the strongest naturally occurring mineral on earth. You, however, are already a diamond, but you still have pressure. The pressure to be absolutely perfect. The right weight, the right height, the right color, the right everything. It is exhausting. It's depressing. It's unattainable and unrealistic.
Dear reader, you are already perfectly imperfect. You are good enough. You are beautiful. You are awesome.
Dear reader, I am sorry. I am sorry we live in a world that places an unbelievable amount of importance of physically looking perfect rather than mentally and emotionally feeling our best. I am sorry that ad after ad shows you blemish-free, wrinkle-free models that are made to look skinnier and more perfect than true to life. You are the perfect weight. You are the perfect height. You are the perfect color as you are today, this minute, right now.
Dear reader, never let anyone tell you any differently. We were not made to be perfect or blemish-free, wrinkle-free, identify-free. We were made to stand out. Embrace that beauty mark across your neck. Love that scar you got on your nose when you were four. Leave the pimple on your cheek alone it is OK!
