With the first presidential debate right around the corner it's easy to see that people from, not just the United States, but all over the world are getting ready to watch it. There are campaign meetings about it, news reports every day, and most importantly the recent controversies over Hillary Clinton's health are making people more anxious for this debate.
My university, Hofstra University, have the privilege of watching the whole debate unfold. We're here from the beginning steps of planning, to security, to remaking a sports center into a debate stage, all the way to advertising, and getting the candidates onto campus. It has been absolutely crazy here with the amount of events that have already occurred, but it's so great to actually be in the viewing point of the whole world for a few weeks. You get to hear the problems first hand, hear the chatter of excitement first, but most importantly you get to be in the center of it all. It's not happening at a university down the turnpike, or even across the country, it's happening right in our home.
Hofstra President Stuart Rabinowitz has put so much time and effort into this debate and I can confidently say that it's going to be just as amazing as the two other presidential debates on Hofstra's campus. Hofstra is proud of their status as the first university to hold three consecutive presidential debates.
Being on campus and seeing the debate process unfold, it's both astonishing and amusing. I never thought I would be in the heart of anything presidential, much like many other students here on campus, but as the debate draws closer we are starting to feel the hype build as we walk to our classes and live our days out.
There are always people on ladders now hanging flags, signs, banners, and building our sports center into a space suitable for a presidential debate. There is so much being done to the university in preparation for the debate, and on behalf of Hofstra University, we hope that the first 2016 presidential debate lives up to everyone's expectations.
Where will YOU be when history is made again?
