President Trump's Silence Is Deafening, It's Time Someone Spoke Up

Sometimes silence can be the loudest thing in the room.

It’s been two weeks. Two weeks since a gunman killed four innocent people in a Waffle House in Nashville, Tennessee. Two weeks since four families lost their loved ones. Two weeks since four young souls had their lives stripped away from them. Two weeks.

And the president has said nothing.

He has not addressed the shooting at all. Not even a tweet from our President Twitter Fingers. He has remained silent about an attack that killed four young people.

Instead, he’s been busy tweeting about the “Russian witch hunt” and “fake news” as well as tweeting about Kanye West.

The president's silence speaks volumes.

The president's silence is deafening.

It baffles me that I am sitting here writing this. Four people were violently killed in a shooting while they were out just trying to live their lives and it has not been addressed by the leader of the country they all live in. On top of that, the shooter was confronted by another man eating in the restaurant, James Shaw Jr., who stopped him from committing any more casualties. The president has not even addressed this man, who is a hero, in any way.

White House Press Secretary, Sarah Sanders, has made a statement saying that there has been an effort made by some in the administration to reach out to Shaw and they will have more information later on. This doesn’t change the fact that the president has remained silent.

Many have raised concerns about the President’s silence is a result of racism - the four victims in the shooting were all people of color. That’s something that can be left up for debate, as the president has made racist comments before but this time he has chosen to remain silent, which is just as harmful to those affected.

He did, however, waste no time to reach out to the people in Canada in their time of need after the van attack in Toronto. That response is like a stab in the gut to the families of DeEbony Groves, Akilah DaSilva, Joe R. Perez, and Taurean C. Sanderlin.

A big issue I have with this is that nobody is saying anything about his lack of response. While he continues to remain silent, nobody seems to really have a problem with it. It’s sad to see what we’ve all come to.

Now, of course, he is under no obligation to speak out on this but you'd think when something like this happens, the leader of our country would speak out but I guess that's just the world we live in now.

We live in a world where people can be shot down in their school, church, place of work, or a restaurant and no changes are brought about.

We live in a world where the president of the U.S. can remain silent about a shooting and nobody seems to be phased.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
